Should I get Dorico or Sibelius? (Long story short, my 2009 version of Sibelius is no longer operable and I'm hitting the limits of the free versions of both softwares.) #musicnotation #dorico #sibelius

My most viewed/liked YouTube videos are the ones where I mispronounce something obvious. 3 years later, I still get (kind) comments pointing those out. Are those videos highest ranked b/c they are otherwise my best, or b/c they are boosted by comments? 🤷♀️ Blessing and a curse, 😅

@daniellekharp I’m a Finale user (it’s fiddly but I love it), but I seriously debated Dorico, so I don’t think you could go wrong with that choice.
@daniellekharp My major consideration would be which company you’re buying into, and I can’t honestly recommend dealing with Avid if you don’t have to.
@daniellekharp I'm still a dyed-in-the-wool Finale fan, so I can't answer objectively (and I don't know Dorico at all).
@daniellekharp Would switch to Dorico from Sibelius if I could afford it. I'm allergic to subscription software and it really grinds my gears to pay for Sibelius every month...
@daniellekharp Also not sure if Dorico is subscription based like Sibelius (as I myself have been considering switching to Dorico) but you could wait for Black Friday and snag a deal on perpetual licenses if the up to date software!
@postarabesque @daniellekharp This comment right here. Also if you have a deep history with Sibelius and non traditional notation then it’s gonna be rough. But basic notation and then some on Dorico is great. Also the tutorials and help community is super awesome for Dorico.
@daniellekharp Especially for Harp, Dorico all the way. Honestly it’s just a superior piece of software in 90% of use cases. The only real reason to stick with Sibelius/Finale these days is because you know it/you have specific needs that can only be met by those apps.
@daniellekharp I can't advise you because I used to use finale, but have you considered using musescore? Nowadays I am using it and I don't feel it as flexible as finale, ok, but it works quite well, I guess everything depends on what you need and things like that🤷♀️ In any case good luck!
@daniellekharp Dorico all the way. Smoother, more intuitive, just leagues ahead really. I switched about 2 years ago and have never looked back.
@daniellekharp The workflow in Dorico is so much smoother. Notation, with only maybe one or two annoyingly common use cases (attacca. it's attacca), defaults to looking much better. There's a few days' worth of learning curve in Dorico coming from Sibelius, but it's worth it.
