We are deeply saddened by the passing of Marjane Satrapi, the acclaimed Franco-Iranian artist, filmmaker, and author of the internationally celebrated graphic novel Persepolis who died at the age of 56. Marjane Satrapi was a fearless voice for feminism, human rights, and freedom. Through her work and public engagement, she consistently advocated for women’s rights, standing in solidarity with the people of Iran and amplifying the message of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement on the global stage. According to a statement from her family, Marjane Satrapi “died of sadness” a little more than a year after the passing of her husband, Mattias Ripa, a producer, actor, and screenwriter, who died on April 8, 2025. UAE denies role in Sudan genocide as Colombian mercenary scandal grows theweek.com/world-news/uae…

While we have reported on the terrible sexual violence that has targeted Sudanese women and girls at @AyinSudan, we rarely look at the long-term effects of these crimes. Collaborating with the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA), we have produced a short documentary on the aftermath of these assaults for women and girls from Al-Jazeera State. SIHA has recorded 677 confirmed cases of conflict-related sexual violence in Al-Jazeera State, the highest figure among 14 states in Sudan. In some cases, the stigma and trauma connected to these experiences leave girls unable to return to school. In other cases, they manage, against all odds, to rise above it and pursue their education. #Sudan, #KeepEyesOnSudan @Sihanet

سكاي نيوز البريطانية تنهي شراكتها مع #الإمارات بسبب #السودان الغارديان البريطانية +++++ أعلنت شبكة سكاي انسحابها من سكاي نيوز عربية، مشروعها الإخباري المشترك مع الإمارات، في خطوة تأتي بعد انتقادات وُجهت للقناة بشأن تغطيتها للحرب في السودان، وسط اتهامات بتجاهل أو تبرير أعمال وُصفت بأنها ترقى إلى الإبادة الجماعية. وكشفت سكاي وشريكتها IMI، الذراع الاستثمارية التابعة للشيخ منصور بن زايد آل نهيان نائب رئيس دولة الإمارات ومالك نادي مانشستر سيتي، عن اتفاق تجاري جديد تتخلى بموجبه الشبكة البريطانية عن جميع أدوارها الاستراتيجية والتشغيلية في القناة الإخبارية العربية التي تبث على مدار الساعة. وبموجب الاتفاق، ستحتفظ سكاي نيوز عربية باسمها الحالي من خلال اتفاقية ترخيص متعددة السنوات للعلامة التجارية مع سكاي البريطانية. وتأسست القناة، التي تتخذ من أبوظبي مقراً لها، عام 2010 كمنافس للقنوات الإخبارية الناطقة بالعربية، مثل الجزيرة وبي بي سي نيوز عربي، وبدأت البث في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا عام 2012. وقال ديفيد رودس، رئيس مجلس إدارة مجموعة سكاي نيوز: "نفخر بما تحقق من خلال شراكتنا مع IMI على مدار السنوات الماضية، وبالحضور المؤثر الذي بنيناه في المنطقة، وقد حان الوقت لهذا التغيير، ونتطلع إلى مواصلة علاقتنا في المرحلة المقبلة من مسيرة سكاي نيوز عربية". وتزايدت المخاوف داخل إدارة سكاي بشأن التوجه التحريري الذي اتخذته سكاي نيوز عربية في تغطية قضايا المنطقة، ولا سيما الحرب في السودان، واتُّهمت القناة بتلميع صورة الانتهاكات التي ارتكبتها قوات الدعم السريع المدعومة من الإمارات. وحظرت الحكومة السودانية عمل سكاي نيوز عربية داخل البلاد في نوفمبر الماضي، بعدما أرسلت القناة فريقاً إلى مدينة الفاشر، عاصمة ولاية شمال دارفور، وأعد تقريراً زعم أن الأوضاع الأمنية والإنسانية هناك شهدت استقراراً. وأشار التقرير إلى أن المراسلة التي أعدت التقرير متزوجة من مسؤول بارز في الحكومة الموازية التابعة لقوات الدعم السريع. كما نشرت القناة لاحقاً تقارير ومقالات إلكترونية شككت في الأدلة المستندة إلى صور الأقمار الصناعية وشهادات الناجين بشأن الانتهاكات المرتكبة على الأرض. وخلصت بعثة تقصي حقائق مفوضة من الأمم المتحدة في فبراير، إلى أن حصار مدينة الفاشر والسيطرة عليها واحتلالها لمدة 18 شهراً من قبل قوات الدعم السريع والميليشيات المتحالفة معها استهدف بشكل متعمد تدمير مجتمعات الأقليات العرقية، ويحمل "سمات الإبادة الجماعية". ونفت الإمارات من جانبها أي مسؤولية عن الانتهاكات التي ارتكبتها قوات الدعم السريع. وقال نخلة الحاج، كبير مسؤولي التحول في IMI: "مع دخولنا هذه المرحلة الجديدة، ستتولى IMI الملكية الكاملة لمستقبل المنصة، بما يتيح لها المرونة والتركيز والقدرة الاستثمارية اللازمة لمواصلة بناء الوجهة الإعلامية متعددة المنصات الرائدة في العالم العربي". وأضاف: "تمثل سكاي نيوز عربية اليوم واحدة من أبرز قصص النجاح الإعلامي في العالم العربي، وقد تمكنت خلال العقد الماضي، من بناء حضور واسع وثقة وتأثير عبر التلفزيون والمنصات الرقمية والصوتية ووسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، ووصلت إلى الجمهور بوتيرة حققتها قلة من المؤسسات الإعلامية في المنطقة". وكانت شركة نيوز كوربوريشن قد أبرمت اتفاق المشروع المشترك الأصلي عندما كانت تسيطر على سكاي. ويأتي انسحاب سكاي من مشروعها الإخباري في الشرق الأوسط بعد خطوة مماثلة في أستراليا، حيث قررت شركة كومكاست الأمريكية، المالكة لسكاي منذ عام 2018، عدم تجديد اتفاق ترخيص استخدام علامة "سكاي نيوز" مع نيوز كوربوريشن، ما دفع سكاي نيوز أستراليا إلى إعادة تسمية نفسها باسم News24 في وقت لاحق من هذا العام. كما ألغيت عام 2020 خطط لإطلاق قناة إخبارية عالمية مستمرة تحمل اسم NBC Sky World News، كانت تهدف إلى منافسة شبكة CNN من خلال دمج موارد سكاي نيوز مع شبكة NBC الأمريكية التابعة لكومكاست.

THE UAE’S PORT IMPERIALISM In this compelling excerpt, former Ethiopian diplomat Mohammad Hasan exposes the Port Imperialism project spearheaded by the UAE’s Mohamed bin Zayed (MBZ) - a calculated geopolitical strategy to dominate the maritime lifelines of Africa and the Middle East. Hasan outlines a sweeping plan to seize control of critical gateways, with the UAE aiming to control every major African port stretching from the eastern Sudanese city of Port Sudan all the way down to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The project extends across the Gulf to dominate all Yemeni ports up to Mukalla. The goal, Hasan suggests, is to ensure that Dubai surpasses Singapore as the world's premier maritime hub. But how did a desert state acquire the intelligence to execute such a vast maritime takeover? Hasan points to a colonial legacy. The UK, the former colonial power in South Yemen, reportedly provided the foundational data for this project. Indeed, by 1951, Aden was the second-biggest port in the world. The UAE is now said to be using that colonial blueprint to resurrect a new era of coastal control. The former diplomat further alleges that this project is not being executed in isolation. He links the UAE's Port Imperialism directly to the Abraham Accords to normalise with Isr*el, claiming that Mossad's second office is in Dubai and operates in tandem with Isr*eli and US interests to secure regional dominance. Thus, if the UAE succeeds in controlling the coasts, it can position itself as the gatekeeper of three continents, backed by old colonial secrets and new intelligence alliances.

Sudan has been ravaged by more than three years of a brutal civil war, where the UAE's role in supporting the RSF has been widely documented. Now, a new report by Human Rights Watch reveals just how far the UAE is willing to go to protect and further its own interests in Sudan.

My take on the #Ethiopian-#Egyptian rivalry. As a historical background I state the great Egyptian civilization wouldn’t have been possible without the Nile, in other words one can say what is currently #Ethiopia contributed to that civilization. A positive aspect for both sides. On the issue of Ethiopia’s sovereignty over the waters of the blue Nile, I argue that this water comes from nature and condensed on the Ethiopian highlands and it is difficult to say Ethiopia owns it. I say that the Nile is an existential to #Egypt while it is important for generation of electricity to Ethiopia and both can reach a win-win solution, if there is political will. On Ethiopia accusing Egypt of denying it access to Red Sea, my argument is that Egypt doesn’t own the coastline and thus can’t give Ethiopia what it doesn’t own. Every country pursues its interests. On Ethiopia is suffering from increased fuel prices because it land locked I point to the recent FT article which shows that he percentage change in prices is actually highest in countries that have access to the sea such as #SouthAfrica, #Tanzania, #Mozambique and #Namibia which are away from the Hormuz strait and has not much to do with being landlocked.

أصدرت منظمة هيومن رايتس ووتش اليوم تقريراً جديداً يُضاف إلى سلسلة الأدلة المتراكمة على تورط نظام مشيخة ابوظبي الإماراتي المباشر في دعم مليشيا الدعم السريع وتمكينها من ارتكاب الإبادة الجماعية وبقية جرائم التقتيل والتشريد والنهب والاغتصاب التي ترتكبها في السودان. ويقدّم التقرير أدلة إضافية على استئجار الإمارات مرتزقة كولومبيين للقتال إلى جانب المليشيا، عبر “المجموعة العالمية للخدمات الأمنية”، التي أسّسها عام 2016 الأمين العام لمجلس الرئاسة الإماراتي أحمد محمد الحُمَيري. كما وثّق التقرير مشاركة هؤلاء المرتزقة في الجرائم التي ارتكبتها المليشيا في الفاشر خلال أكتوبر 2025، والتي شملت القتل والاغتصاب والتجويع والاستهداف العرقي، وهي جرائم سبق توثيقها في تقارير الأمم المتحدة ومنظمات حقوق الإنسان. غير أن الدليل الأشد خطورةً على التورط الرسمي الإماراتي يأتي من أفواه المرتزقة الكولومبيين أنفسهم، إذ أكدوا في شهاداتهم أنهم تلقّوا تدريباتهم عقب التعاقد معهم داخل قواعد عسكرية إماراتية، وحدّدوا بالاسم قاعدتي الغياثي والوثبة في أبوظبي. وأفاد أحد المرتزقة بأنهم تولّوا بدورهم تدريب عناصر المليشيا، وأن كثيراً من المجنَّدين كانوا “أطفالاً صغاراً”. فضلاً عن ذلك، وثّق التقرير وجود أسلحة أوروبية المنشأ سُحبت مباشرة من مخازن القوات المسلحة الإماراتية وتقديمها إلى المليشيا والمرتزقة، في انتهاك صريح لاتفاقيات المستخدم النهائي، وفقاً لأبحاث مشتركة أجرتها هيومن رايتس ووتش ومنظمة العفو الدولية وفرانس 24. يُضيف هذا التقرير طبقةً جديدة من الأدلة إلى ملف مكتمل الأركان، هو ان مليشيا الدعم السريع، هي منظمة إرهابية عابرة للحدود كما يجب تصنيفها دوليا بكل رسمي بهذه الصفة، والإمارات راعٍ مباشر للإرهاب والإبادة الجماعية تحتاج إلى محاسبة دولية فعلية لا بيانات استنكار او محاولات تبييض صورتها وشكلها. ويكشف التقرير في الوقت ذاته عن حقيقة موقف “الموظفين المُستأجرين” الذين تحتضنهم أبوظبي بينما تموّل ذبح السودانيين. في مقدمتهم الدكتور عبدالله حمدوك، رئيس تحالف صمود، والموظف في ابوظبي كمدير تنفيذي للمركز الأفريقي للتنمية والاستثمار، الذي يعمل لتوسيع فرص الاستثمار الإماراتي في أفريقيا، فيما يُطلّ علينا بخطاب السلام والتحول الديموقراطي لأهل السودان الذين تقتلهم الإمارات، وفيما يسعى في نفس الحين جاهداً، للزج بتحالف المليشيا (تأسيس) في اي عملية سياسية عن مستقبل السودان. اي ديموقراطية تلك التي ستقدمها لضحايا الابادة الجماعية في الجنينة والفاشر، وماذا سيفعل الموتى بصناديق التصويت يا د. حمدوك ومن معه؟! مفهومٌ تماماً أن ظروف الحرب والانهيار الاقتصادي دفعت الآلاف من السودانيين إلى الهجرة بحثاً عن لقمة عيش أو أمان في شتى أنحاء العالم، ومنها الإمارات، لكن وضع هولاء يختلف عن الساسة والاعلاميينالذين يعملون في خدمة الاجندة الاماراتية والترويج لسرديات التبري لتورطها في الحرب، وتبييض صورة قتلة شعبنا والبحث عن مستقبل سياسي لهم، بينما يتاجرون بمفردات الوطن والمواطن، فذلك ليس اضطراراً ولا هجرة، ذلك استئجار. الإمارات تقتل السودانيين، وتستأجر المرتزقة من أطراف الأرض لتبشع بهم وتدمر بلادهم. ومن يتملّص من هذه الحقيقة أو يسعى في تمييعها، فهو لا يمارس في سياسة او عمل عام في خدمة الناس، بل اختار موقعه عميلاً لمشيخة أبوظبي على حساب دماء شعبه. رابط التقرير: hrw.org/ar/news/2026/0…
