Pope Francis, 87, from a wheelchair, washes the feet of 12 female prisoners at Rebibbia prison, Rome. Emotional scenes with Francis emphasising in his homily the importance of humility, service, forgiveness. #holythursday
It is believed to be the first time a pope has exclusively washed the feet of women in the Holy Thursday foot washing ritual.
@ctrlamb So emotional indeed. So humble that he had a platform built to accommodate his need to display his humility. So moved by the lack of diversity in only choosing only women. And those are expensive shoes. Even I cannot afford them.
@ctrlamb Strong enough to wash feet, but not to lift the Host at the altar.
@ctrlamb I love that he went to the women’s prison.
@ctrlamb Humble my ass. Why isn't he washing the feet of 12 men who prefer to attend the traditional Latin mass?
@ctrlamb In our parish this evening, in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, US, many washed one another's feet, men and women, ordained and lay, all brothers and sisters in our Lord, Redeemer walking the synodal road together, carrying one another's Cross like Simon of Cyrene did for Christ.
