Let's check in on El Salvador, home of the world's highest homicide rate just eight years ago. From January 1st to April 30th, there were only 51 homicides, making the homicide count 85.3% lower than it was over the same period in 2022.
@cremieuxrecueil What law or laws did they enact to reduce this rate?
@cremieuxrecueil Are the stats legit? Any plausible motive and means by which to cover up the numbers?
@cremieuxrecueil According to the fine print at the bottom, the big change is not counting people killed by the cops as homicides.
@cremieuxrecueil Turns out that being tough on crime works.
@cremieuxrecueil I think you are making an argument that incarcerating poor people is effective crime prevention policy
@cremieuxrecueil Wow, that's great news! It's good to see the efforts to bring down the homicide rate in El Salvador are paying off. Hopefully, this positive trend continues for the country's sake.
@cremieuxrecueil Next you'll be telling me locking up violent felons and gang members works.
