Alongside the lack of good evidence Cass has highlighted, there’s a fundamental question that everyone needs to answer before arguing for medical interventions to help the “trans child”. And the TRAs have never been able to provide an answer to this: How do you identify the “trans child”? How do you differentiate the “trans child” from someone who’s just struggling with puberty, life in general, their identity, or is suffering from other mental health conditions? What are the diagnostic criteria? And it can’t be self-diagnosis at that young an age.
@colwight And could someone please tell me where to find this gender identity they are harping on about? What evidence is there for its existence? I keep asking, yet no one can tell me. I just want one article that defines it and shows not just context but its justification of discovery.
@colwight There are two solutions: 1. Believe all children, believe 1% regret rate. (Be wrong) 2. Reject all transition, including social for kids. (Be right) 2.b. No promises for social acceptance or cross sex legal status! Buyer beware.
@colwight You could just read the diagnosis criteria we already have. Clearly they're good as less than 1% detransition etc
@colwight When the child is pre-exposed to the idea that being "different" (almost every kid feels this way at some point, before/after puberty) might mean you were born in the wrong body, & many teachers celebrate this, who doesn't want a cure that also makes them special instead of sad?
@colwight I reverse the question- how do you identify a “cis child”? The background assumption is most people are cis and they could later have irreversible physical changes that would cause them distress if they turned out not to be cis.
@colwight There's like decades of research and books on it. Medical experts let children live as the gender they claim they feel they are with minimal medical intervention until they are old enough to reflect on their experience and feelings as an adult.
@colwight That’s easy. You just listen to them until they’re deemed Gillick competent to decide themselves on what further help they want.
@colwight There is the criteria that is universally applied by WPATH. That’s how one identifies if someone is trans. Leave it to the experts and not the bigots. Amen.
