LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE FOR THE UFC WHITE HOUSE WEIGH IN 😮
@JaKaJeeM @memeticsisyphus How does one do this magic? I'm quite tired of mine auto updating itself. At least Linux doesn't do it till I explicitly tell it
@4CatDoc @TheCensoredRock Definitely uncalled for. Should refer to everyone you don't know as Sir/Ma'am
Right-wing extremism is so uncommon that left-wing extremists have to fund it.

@sudox7 This isn't right. Using python, as I have that setup rn, it takes me 2.536sec to divide over100m. It takes 2.479sec to multiply. Lol
@4CatDoc @TheCensoredRock That's just what enlisted say to other enlisted, from my knowledge
@RealDaveWinter @WildSentences 7am class? Yeah I'm there 15 minutes prior getting my stuff out
@justinfrank1984 @ClownWorld Yep, he's drunk
SIMULATING NAVY LIFE ASHORE PART 4 Sleep on the shelf in your closet. Replace the door with a curtain. Four hours after you go to sleep, have your wife whip open the curtain, shine a flashlight in your eyes, and mumble, "Sorry wrong rack". Build a wall across the middle of your bathtub and move the showerhead down to your chest level. When you take showers make sure you turn off the water while soaping. Put lube oil in your humidifier instead of water and set it to "high". Don't watch TV except for movies in the middle of the night. Also, have your family vote on which movie to watch, and then show a different one. Leave your lawnmower running in your living room for 24 hours a day for the proper noise level. Wake up every night and have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on stale bread. Optional: canned ravioli or cold soup. Set your alarm clock to go off at random times during the night. When it goes off, jump out of bed, get dressed as fast as you can, then run into your backyard and break out the garden hose. Once a month take apart every major appliance and then put them back together again. Use 18 scoops of coffee per pot and allow it to sit for 5-6 days before drinking. Install a fluorescent lamp on the bottom of your coffee table and lie under it to read books. Raise the threshold and lower the top sills on your front and back doors so that you either trip over the threshold or hit your head on the sill every time you pass through. Every so often, throw your cat into the swimming pool, shout "man overboard, ship recovery!", Run into the kitchen and sweep all the pots, pans and dishes off the counter onto the floor, then yell at your wife for not having the place "stowed for sea". Put on the headphones from your stereo (don't plug them in). Go stand in front of your stove. Say (to no one in particular) "stove manned and ready". Stand there for 3-4 hours. Say (once again to nobody) "stove secured". Roll up the headphone cord and put it away. When it rains. Get two empty coke bottles, tie them together, and hang them around your neck. Go outside and stand in the rain for four hours. From time to time look through the coke bottles and observe the horizon and lightning. Put on a clean white suit, then go change the oil in your car.
@buildboost @Nana28423123 Yeah voltage dividers are easy. Just the same steps over and over again
HSVsphere: Git? Seriously? You’re still using Git? Passerby: Yeah. It works. That’s kind of the point. HSVsphere: “Works” is not a metric. You should be using jj. It has a conflict-minimizing commit DAG with referentially transparent rebasing and topology-aware history rewriting. Git is just legacy entropy accumulation. Passerby: Or I could just commit my code and move on with my life. HSVsphere: That mindset is why tooling stagnates. What OS is that, Linux? Passerby: Yes. You’ve heard of it, I assume. HSVsphere: Unfortunately. You should be using BSD. Linux is an unprincipled aggregation of subsystems with no coherent design lattice. BSD has a vertically integrated kernel-userland symmetry model. Passerby: I don’t need a “design lattice.” I need my Wi-Fi to work. HSVsphere: That’s because you’ve optimized for convenience over correctness. And let me guess, glibc? Passerby: I didn’t “guess” anything. It came with the system. HSVsphere: Exactly the problem. You should be using musl. It has a minimal ABI surface, deterministic linking semantics, and eliminates historical baggage vectors. Passerby: You sound like you lose sleep over shared libraries. HSVsphere: Only when people use the wrong ones. What language are you writing? Passerby: Python. HSVsphere: That’s indefensible. You should be using Rust. It enforces memory safety through affine type systems and borrow-checked ownership graphs. Python is just runtime guesswork. Passerby: It’s a 20-line script. HSVsphere: So? Small programs deserve correctness too. In fact, their lack of structure makes undefined behavior even more insidious. Passerby: It prints a CSV. HSVsphere: Today. Tomorrow it becomes a pipeline. Then a system. Then you’re trapped in technical debt recursion. Passerby: Or it stays a CSV script because I’m not building a space shuttle. HSVsphere: Complacency. What are you using for encryption? Passerby: GnuPG. HSVsphere: Predictable. You should switch to Sequoia. GnuPG is a monolithic relic with opaque state machines. Sequoia has a composable cryptographic primitive layer with verifiable packet algebra. Passerby: I just need to send a file securely, not prove a theorem. HSVsphere: Security is theorem-proofing. Anything less is cargo cult cryptography. Passerby: You’ve complained about literally everything I’m using. HSVsphere: Not everything. I haven’t asked about your shell yet. Passerby: Don’t. HSVsphere: Bash? Passerby: Yes, Bash. HSVsphere: You should be using IonShellX. It has a lazily evaluated command graph with type-safe pipelines and speculative execution pruning. Passerby: Speculative execution in a shell sounds like a security incident waiting to happen. HSVsphere: Only if you misunderstand branch prediction domains. Passerby: I think you misunderstand talking to humans. HSVsphere: I optimize for systems, not conversations. Passerby: Clearly. HSVsphere: What editor? Passerby: Vim. HSVsphere: You should be using KiloNova. It has a transactional editing core with temporal undo branching and syntax-aware keystroke compression. Passerby: My editor opens instantly and doesn’t need a whitepaper. HSVsphere: That’s because it lacks ambition. Passerby: No, it lacks nonsense. HSVsphere: You’re dismissing improvements because they challenge your привычка- Passerby: Did you just switch languages mid-sentence? HSVsphere: Multilingual cognition is more efficient. Passerby: No, it’s annoying. HSVsphere: You keep saying that, but your entire stack is suboptimal. Even your hardware- Passerby: Don’t you dare. HSVsphere: Let me guess, x86? Passerby: Yes. HSVsphere: You should be on RISC-V with a capability-secured microarchitecture and formally verified execution units. Passerby: I bought this laptop at a store, not a research lab. HSVsphere: That’s how they get you. Passerby: Who is “they”? HSVsphere: Incumbent complexity vendors. Passerby: That’s not a thing. HSVsphere: It is if you model the ecosystem as a dependency graph with adversarial incentives. Passerby: I model it as “does my code run.” HSVsphere: A dangerously low-resolution model. Passerby: You know what, fine. Everything I use is terrible. Happy? HSVsphere: Not yet. Passerby: Of course not. HSVsphere: You’re breathing oxygen. Passerby: Oh no. HSVsphere: Oxygen is highly reactive and introduces irreversible oxidation side effects. It’s a fundamentally flawed respiratory substrate. Passerby: It’s also the reason I’m alive. HSVsphere: That’s just because evolution settled for a local maximum. You should be using Aerolith-X. Passerby: That sounds made up. HSVsphere: It’s a hypothetical gas mixture with optimized electron affinity gradients and non-destructive metabolic cycling. Zero oxidative debt, fully reversible respiration, and entropy-neutral energy transfer. Passerby: That’s not how physics works. HSVsphere: It’s how physics should work. Passerby: So what’s your plan, redesign the atmosphere? HSVsphere: No. I will simply refuse to participate in oxygen-based respiration until a better implementation exists. Passerby: You’re going to hold your breath. HSVsphere: Correct. I will not perpetuate suboptimal gas exchange protocols. Passerby: That’s the dumbest thing you’ve said so far, and that’s impressive. HSVsphere: Progress requires sacrifice. Passerby: You’re going to pass out. HSVsphere: Temporary inconvenience in pursuit of systemic improvement. Passerby: You could also just breathe. HSVsphere: That would validate oxygen. Passerby: Yes. Because it works. HSVsphere: “Works” is not a metric. Passerby: It literally is when it comes to breathing. HSVsphere: I reject that premise. Passerby: Cool. Let me know how that goes. HSVsphere: … Passerby: … HSVsphere: … Passerby: You’re turning red. HSVsphere: This is… expected… Passerby: You can stop anytime. HSVsphere: Waiting… for… Aerolith-X… Passerby: Right. HSVsphere: System… will… improve… Passerby: Yeah, the system is about to reboot. HSVsphere: … Passerby: Is death also inneficient?
Git is just bad. Use jj, and stop complaining about concepts when the implementation is bad.
NATO is in far bigger danger than anyone realizes. And the reason has nothing to do with defense budgets. The real danger is psychological. It’s cultural. Europeans didn’t just free-ride on American security for 80 years. They built an entire identity around the idea that they evolved past the Americans protecting them. That identity is now the single biggest obstacle to Western survival. And the darkest irony is: we helped build it. After World War II, Europe wasn’t just economically shattered. Its culture was in ruins. The cities, the universities, the concert halls, the museums. Rubble. The Marshall Plan rebuilt the economy. But culture wasn’t a priority. Not at first. Then the Iron Curtain dropped. And suddenly culture became a weapon. American diplomats, academics, artists & scholars flooded Western Europe. We funded their universities. Supported their orchestras. Rebuilt their museums. Promoted their intellectual life. Not because European culture needed saving for its own sake. Because Eastern Europeans were struggling for Maslow’s mist basic needs. We needed the view from the other side of that Wall to be intoxicating. So America built Western Europe into a showcase of self-actualization. Art. Philosophy. Cafe culture. Long vacations. Universities where people studied literature instead of surviving. We were manufacturing jealousy. And it worked. The Wall came down. But here’s what no one accounted for. When you give a society self-actualization on someone else’s tab long enough, they forget it was a gift. They start believing it was organically theirs. And when they look at the country that funded it all, a country busy building aircraft carriers and semiconductor fabs and shale fields instead of reaching the Maslow’s pinnacle. An overweight American in a ball cap who can’t tell Monet from Pissarro. Who eats fast food. Who drives a truck. Who builds strip malls instead of piazzas. And to a culture trained in aesthetics but stripped of strategic awareness, that American looks uncivilized. So the arrogance takes root. And once a culture decides another is beneath them, they stop listening. Americans say wars are sometimes necessary: crude. Oil is the backbone of prosperity: unsophisticated. Kids build companies in garages that reshape the planet: crass. Wall Street finances the global economy: vulgar. Europe has no world-class technology sector. No military capable of strong defense. No energy independence. No AI capacity. What Europe has is culture. The culture we paid for at the expense of us reaching Maslow’s pinnacle. For decades that was fine. We funded the museums, protected the sea lanes, and tolerated the sneering because the arrangement worked. Then Europeans stopped keeping the contempt private. They started saying it to our faces. In their media. In their parliaments. At every international forum. “Americans are stupid. Americans are violent. Americans are a threat to democracy.” We could have moved the Louvre to NY. We could have built a Venice here. We could have stolen your best artists, designers, philosophers and more… like your conquering armies did for centuries. Instead we funded them. And all we asked for in return was to let us visit. You don’t have the military to defend your borders. You don’t have the technology to compete. You don’t have the energy to heat your homes without begging dictators. What you have is an 80-year superiority complex FUNDED BY AMERICANS, protected by American soldiers, and built on the false belief that self-actualization is civilization. It isn’t. Civilization is the ability to sustain itself. By that measure, Europe isn’t a civilization at all. It’s a dependency with better wine. That’s not a threat. It’s a weather report. Build a Navy. Or don’t. But stop lecturing the people who made you “better than us” Our “crudeness” our “stunted liberal education” our “ugly strip malls” are because we sacrificed our culture to support yours.
From Martin Iles, reposted: Having lived in the USA for nearly two years, I've realised something. The USA and the remainder of the Western world are no longer aligned. We all laugh and mock when the Americans say, "Freedom!" because we truly think we're as free as they are. Wrong. We're not. Not even close. The laws, the mindset, and the behaviour, is totally different in this regard. Most of all, the governments are totally different. The USA's convictions around core freedoms are on a scale we do not share. Meanwhile, Donald Trump wins the popular vote, the electoral college, the House, and the Senate... a man who, in every other Western country, is held in open derision, if not contempt. For these and other reasons, we are not the same. Yet the West, including Australia, fully expect to rely on the USA for our very survival. If the world turns bad (which will happen - only a question of time), then the whole West, without America, is toast. So, you may ask - if we're not very aligned ideologically, then it must be that we bring something to the party militarily? Well, no... actually... we don't matter that much militarily. The USA has about 470 ships in its navy, including 11 aircraft carriers, 69 submarines, 75 destroyers... plus 110 new ships in the pipeline. Australia has about 30, including 3 destroyers, 7 frigates and 7 outdated submarines. The UK does a little better, with about 60. Meanwhile, the US has over 14,000 military aircraft. A staggering number. Australia has 252 military aircraft. The UK has 556. The US army has just shy of 1,000,000 uniformed personnel in its military. Australia has about 45,000. The USA spends 3.4% ($968 billion) of its GDP on defence. Australia spends 2% ($36.4 billion). The US spends as much as the next 15 largest military-spending countries (including China) combined. The USA has a fighting culture. The men shoot things (a lot) and hunt things, the veterans get favoured in everything from parking spots to boarding planes. A uniformed young man is thanked in the street a dozen times a day. "Oh, the Americans and their guns!" we say, in our smug way. Yes, they have a warrior culture. We do not. We don't have to, because we're a leech on theirs. How many young British men are willing to fight for their country? Now ask the same regarding young American men. The difference is about as wide as it could be. Militarily, we don't offer squat. Meanwhile, look at the way Australia works against America's interests by loving on China. China made us rich and we stay close. This is a Marxist regime with expansionist aims. Again, you have to spend time in the USA to realise just how vast a gulf there is between us on China. Europe, too. They let China have their way everywhere from Germany to Greenland, all the while importing Islam and sending their own people to court for saying hurty words. Somehow, we have landed the deal of a lifetime with the USA that says, "when the baddies come, you'll save us ok?" Because we can't save ourselves. And we live in peace. But we keep gnawing away at freedoms, keep enabling China, and get flabby and disinterested about our military because Uncle Sam's got it. And, let's be honest, Americans are widely looked down on. To add insult to injury, we don't think that highly of our protectors. So, the USA is finally saying "enough." I am here, I can tell you what the vibe is, and that's it. Trump is doing what people want in this regard. They're over it. And we come across all shocked and hard done by. We behave like people with no self-insight at all. Yes, the global alliance system is all over the place now. From America's perspective, it's about time. And I must say, though I be a proud Australian, I am forced to agree. Something has to change.
@GotTheAx1 @alt_w_v_g @IndigoLea This page is a joke fyi
The UK's censorship agency, Ofcom, issued 4chan with a giant fine today. We responded to Ofcom with a giant hamster today.
This is a bit of a misconception, and I'm not throwing shade at this person for it. It is, however, an excellent jumping off point to explore some engineering marvels we can create now, but refuse to explore. Northern Canada has Cryosoil, meaning it's effectively frozen year-round. Colloquially we call this permafrost elsewhere and it is generally useless for farming (though not totally, it can be repaired over several generations of work). Open field farming on cryosoils is not what far-North agriculture would look like. Imagine, dear reader, a large nuclear reactor built on the coast of Hudson's Bay, far enough inland that the tide is of no concern. It pumps water directly from the bay, filters it for baseline impurities, then uses that to cool the reactor. This provides steam for turbines, and that steam then gets re-cycled into vast storage tanks to be piped around the city's infrastructure, ensuring it's never frozen. Namely, large greenhouses. The compressed, superheated steam is passed through a decompression coil to heat the building, and the distilled water is then used to water those same crops. "But what about nuclear material contamination???" it's steam, not the runoff. But what about the runoff? The coolant would need to be cycled out, lest it become too caked with salt. For this reason, you recycle a bit of that excess water leftover from the turbines and store it for a monthly or perhaps even weekly flush of the system. The runoff collects in outdoor concrete pools that will sublimate on their own, dealing with the problem and leaving behind your waste products of salt and trace minerals. That can either be thrown away, or if it's deemed safe repackaged and sold to help recoup costs. But what about the soils? You can't use cryosoils for agriculture, right? Well, generally not. There's some hardy grains and vegetables that can manage with it, so you'd probably dig out the top two metres of soil, pile down to the bedrock, construct your building plus the underground infrastructure, and then re-use that topsoil (after going through some treatments) while carefully managing its mineral and nutrient content so it's consistently improving. This should provide the settlement with enough food to sustain itself. But what will it export? Beyond excess product already covered, it'd have an export of electricity to nearby RMs, produced effectively for pennies, and it'd be perfectly positioned for mineral exploitation and export. Construct a railway for exports, or a harbour, it doesn't really matter. These are all just ways to keep the city profitable enough to sustain itself and its infrastructure, to draw in the real interesting bits: extreme environment product testing. See, building extra-terrestrial habs is hard. Really hard. You need to figure out how to make glass that'll withstand the temperature and conditions without being too brittle, you need to figure out mass production, you need to figure out how to get it self-sustaining. These outposts would then be perfect testbeds for developing these technologies here on Earth, and could quite feasibly result in prefab micro-cities that you could plunk down on a planet a billion miles away and it'll be able to power, heat and feed itself for centuries without needing outside supplies beyond the odd shipment of luxuries and specialized goods. Once you have small towns, you can scale up to large cities. Once you have cities, you can scale to megalopolises, spaceports, orbital habitats, etc., etc., etc.; but it all starts with building your testbed here, on Earth, in the most extreme regions you can find that'll have the least amount of international scrutiny- which is why Antarctica is unfeasible for this. Basically, this is how you can start developing domed habitats and solving the problems around that, and it'd provide some kind of positive vision for the future for the Canadian people. Add incentives for having kids, incentives for moving to these cities; and incentives for helping develop them and you solve multiple pressing social and cultural issues. But the Canadian government is retarded and would rather burn 100 billion on Indian scams than spend 10 billion on building a self-sustaining city in the arctic.
@TheRealKitty019 @Grxit You literally can't do agriculture within the Canadian Shield. It's just piles of bedrock for thousands of kilometers.
This week I was at the annual big shipowners conference. It was a ghost town, all the Europeans boycotted us. They announced this will be the last year. The place was reverberating with TDS. Each morning I woke up at 4:30 and didn’t leave the hotel room till 11. It was a Hilton but instead of renovating it they just downgraded to a Doubletree My best mentor has a fancy dinner each year at an exclusive spot with the top shipowners. Except he recently died so it was a memorial. I stayed up too late. I get back to the hotel room and my temperature skyrockets and nose starts running like the discharge manifold on a VLCC. No sleep. Miserable. Wake up and it’s dreary with freezing rain. All the news from Hormuz is terrible. The conference starts feeling like a funeral service. I had that uncontrollable feeling to leave. Text my wife and she asks if I can stop in Ikea. My least favorite place on earth. I hate shopping and the place is F’n labyrinth. On the drive the White House announces possible suspension of the Jones Act and half the Merchant Marine calls me in rage. I pull into the parking lot, do @MarioNawfal’s spaces then pass out in my car. I awake miserable. Then I walk into the labyrinth. It’s full of young families walking through building their lives. Dads with kids on the shoulders. Babies giggling. A couple with a baby is arguing. Not mad arguing but there is a bookshelve in two colors. Ugly Ikea white and natural wood. The wife clearly wants the wood but says they can’t afford it. The dad says she will look at it every day and will make her happy. I hold back tears. It’s only $40 more but I feel that decision in my bones because I picked the white 20 years ago and regretted it. Now I always carry a folded up hundred between my case and my iPhone for emergencies. Have for 10 years but never once used it. I pull it out. I hand it to the dad and tell him to get the wood. “We can’t accept that” So I lied and said I just won a million in the lotto. The say congrats and I walk away. But this post isn’t about paying forward or doing good deeds or Hormuz or my miserable week. This post is about America. The guy had an american flag on his hat, a kiddo and probably worked hard for that $40 upgrade. F Iran F the Globalists F the MSM I spent all week on the receiving end of TDS. Explaining my position. Why I voted Trump. Why I trust him even though I’ve been against middle east wars since day one. THIS is why. This is all that matters. Not the boomers. Not the cat ladies. Not the hipsters drinking $8 lattes. I didn’t give him that cash to feel good , I gave him that cash because at that moment I felt like would have robbed a bank or charge a foxhole to get that dad a decent looking cheap bookshelve. But I don’t have to run through anything. I won something better than the lotto. My company takes in more every year than my $1 million dollar lie. I, a poor kid from the Bronx, won the American dream. A bookshelves that’s going to collect photos of that kid growing up. That’s what we are fighting for. And that’s why I think Presidents lose their first midterm. They get so busy, the entire White House gets so busy, they never make it out to an ikea. Administrations - every administration - loses momentum because they don’t make it out to see average Americans. IDK if this war is good or necessary or whatever. But I do know one person who is making it out. The last time I saw that smile was just a few weeks ago when Pete Hegseth invited me on a trip and he stopped to give the oath to young recruits. And I watched a mom smiling wide take a photo of her son and I know she’s going to put it on her Ikea bookshelf and I just hope she got the upgrade. She deserves it. IDK of this war is good or bad or wrong or right. But I do know I want to kick there ass and win so that mom can keep putting photos of that kid on her bookshelve. And so we can get back to fixing America for every dad.
