Quick question for backend developers: this will be focused on modules used in Node.js, though. You can also say how you do things on your end. I hope I get some replies. My question has to do with file uploads. A few of the Node.js projects I’ve worked on that need file uploads have always been done the Multer way, where the files are handled with Multer, stored in either memory or disk storage. I upload the files to a service like S3/GCS or maybe Cloudinary (for smaller projects), store the info I need, delete the files from the disk, and I’m done. This has been my routine for some time; it works, and everybody smiles. But I know I don’t do any checks to see if the files being uploaded can be harmful and stuffs like that. I believe there’s a possibility that someone can upload malicious files and, you know, do something funny on any instance I’m running my server. The main purpose of this long talk is to know other people’s opinions on that. I want to know if I’m overthinking the stuff or if there are additional steps I’m missing as a result of my ignorance.
