I know I may get some heat but private schools should be in their own division. I feel bad for Troy, a group of Troy kids who go 22-1 but lose to a team with great players from all over metro Detroit. How are public schools supposed to compete with Rice and OLSM?

@coachjjayson Then keep kids in their own districts drop open enrollment and when was the last time a private school actually won a title in football, basketball or baseball( minus OLSM) . Argument doesn’t hold water. Public schools have kids that can skip practice with no consequences
@coachjjayson You are spot on, Coach. It is extremely flawed that public schools have to compete with private schools. Private schools have so much more money and leeway when it comes to recruiting (which public can’t legally do) and it creates an extremely unfair advantage.
@coachjjayson I have been saying we need to at least have an open division like California where all private schools have to play along with the other top schools in the state. Think Belleville and a traditional Detroit King.
@coachjjayson Maybe we have a public bracket and a private bracket and then have the public and private winners play for the state title so at least don't have private playing against public in the district round
@coachjjayson @kwoodardWLN Private schools 100% should have their own playoff brackets in EVERY SPORT.
@coachjjayson Yep…said it for years. But …they don’t care. 6 Public. 2 Private. 8 divisions for ALL sports.
@coachjjayson Schools with open enrollment potentially can have a bigger advantage because there isn’t any tuition, but private schools can still set their own rules if there is any tuition. The D3 & D4 schools are most affected. If doubt that, then check out the history of state championships
@coachjjayson I'm sorry coach but that sounds a little weak seeing that in the past 20yrs only 2 catholic teams have won the championship and only 4 have made it to the final game. Looks like public schools are beating the catholic league. Olsm or rice were not any of the teams either.
@coachjjayson Open enrollment quells that.
@coachjjayson Watched a gritty Olivet football team go toe to toe with a much larger Grand Rapids West Catholic in 2010 state championships. The size difference was striking. How do public schools compete with that?
