26/7/1942 The time in Singapore also change we have to listen to the time they say even when they say it is midnight but it's still bright

24 july 1942 there isn't any entertainment the only thing we do now besides the necessities to survive is sleep we do not have any radio

18 july 1942 I am so scared i just saw 2 neighbours talking and got spotted by a Japanese soldier and each of them got whipped harshly

17july 1942 i sometimes trade food with my neighbours and if i am lucky there would be some people selling vegetables and meat at $4 a kati

16 July 1942 i sneaked out to the black market again i am getting weaker everyday because of tapioca diet i eat everyday i may fall ill soon

13 july 1942: I had to risk losing my head to buy food from the black market that was the penalty madeby the Jap if anyone caught doing this

10 July 1942:monthly rice entitlement is12 kati for men and 8 kati for women.we are only given2 kati of noodles n two loaves of bread a week

8 July I'm so hungry meats are so expensive and there always a long queue all the best food are given to those who worked for the Japanese

06 July 1942: me and my mom needed food...I crept out of the house to find some and I found our neighbor's head dangling from a lamp post...

27 June 1942: today I heard that a student didn't look in the direction of Japan when singing the national anthem... They took him away...

30 May 1942: I'm not in the mood to speak but...my mother had to become a comfort women to support us...I wish life could be better here...

19 May 1942: I'm so disgusted..I just saw a poster from the Japanese of locals holding a jap flag...I'm so enraged.

19 April 1942: Umm...I finally got something out of Ah Hock...my father was taken away again...they believed. Executed.

17 April 1942: My father hasn't come home. Ah Hock came back the day after they took him. He had a stamp on his face he won't say anything

17 March 1942: Soldiers are marching all over town...there's so much blood...so many bodies...I'm scared for my life
