While everyone debates whether the Orchard pool was exploited, you can just look at the data. We shipped Pool Analytics this week, per-pool supply tracking, shielding/deshielding flows, turnstile breakdowns. Orchard, Sapling, Sprout. All live. Verify it yourself: cipherscan.app/pools
Formal verification of Zcash's shielded protocol is coming in the next upgrade. We will literally have mathematical proof there are no bugs (that's what formal verification is). @ebfull has been working on this for nearly a year. Zcash's security focus is unparalleled.
We connected to an external Zebra v5.0.0 node to restore live data while our own node resyncs. Blocks are flowing again on cipherscan.app. Thanks to everyone involved for the help and for the node access. Community came through. 🫶
Block explorers are just readers. They pull data from a node, parse it, and display it. If the node is upgrading or resyncing, the explorer goes stale. The chain itself kept producing blocks the entire time. Miners didn't stop. Transactions kept confirming. ⬇️
Zcash was never down. Our nodes were upgrading to support the NU6.2 network upgrade. You can verify the chain is healthy right now: cipherscan.app/blocks Full thread below on what happened and what we learned.
Network is up and running. It's just explorers syncing for the most part.
fyi this is completely false the network is not down. a few explorer apps are connected to a bad node, so the explorers are false. but network is fully functional, can confirm below
Now upgrading to Zebra 5.0. Resyncing from scratch, Cipherscan will back online soon. Impressed by how fast the Zcash team moved on this. Discovery to fix in days, not weeks.

Zcash devs coordinated a soft fork to temporarily disable Orchard transactions while addressing a security issue. The actual fix comes in a follow-up release, Orchard stays suspended until then. What we did: - Upgraded Zebra to v4.5.3 - Scanned 1,571 blocks, found 45 hash mismatches - Archived 37 orphaned blocks, cleaned 6,474 stale transactions - Re-indexed the canonical chain in ~10 minutes We also shipped cipherscan.app/reorgs: a dedicated reorg explorer showing fork events, orphaned blocks, depths, and timestamps. Data is fully consistent with the canonical chain.
