Anthropic maintains that it is entitled to train for free on all the world’s output, even if the author objects. But if a competitor trains on Anthropic’s output after paying for it, that is IP theft. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

China releasing OW models only helps the CCP in that they're giving away tech you can control, while the US is attempting to consolidate power.

Apologies if I misunderstood that your take was implicitly advocating to restrict open source. In terms of of the economics, my hunch is that @chamath is right when he suggests "if the model layers’ costs decrease by 10-100x, competition would accelerate and I would argue that the value to everyone else will go up more than what is lost" - and that leads me to believe the investment will be warranted due to the upside for the hardware and application layers.
@zachtratar OpenAI and Anthropic literally "distilled" the entire internet and they continue to "distill" users prompts to steal the IP of their customers. The technology itself is inherent theft.
