Today, 🇨🇦feels broken. While Google makes $100B AI Investment, the current Canadian Liberal government commits $2B in AI to "stimulate" the economy while simultaneously increasing taxes for Companies, successful Entrepreneurs, trusts and on individual capital gains and risk-driven investment returns. I just don't understand what they are trying to do or maybe they don't understand how to deliver a budget and guidelines to achieve what they are trying to do?
@chrisarsenault I don't get to vote on how 🇨🇦 fosters startup tech-innovation, but I would encourage Ottawa to look to the UK; Investors get Capital Gains Tax relief on 50% of the investment, up to £200,000
@chrisarsenault Would be better if they got out of the way of the innovators and allowed for an environment that supports innovation and growth. Taxing the country to the ground with nothing to show for it is just going to worsen the brain drain that's already become a huge problem.
@chrisarsenault Chris, how many roundtables have you and Inovia been asked to sit at? A lot right? Me too. For these policies my guess is none. They are trying to find money for the budget anyway they can while keeping programs they promised or came up with.
@chrisarsenault I’d actually prefer they just keep the $2Bn in AI funding at this point. They’ll be no one else to follow that money in light of the capital gains changes and it’ll end up being a straight burning of cash at this point.
@chrisarsenault You misunderstand: this is not policy. It's a campaign wedge: soak the rich! Yes, it's really that cynical.
@chrisarsenault why don't you throw billions into am over hyped market rather than my tax dollars?
@chrisarsenault They're not even protecting people who want to create a necessary service biz Septic Well digging HVAC Plumbing Almost all too risky as a 0-2 employee small biz.
@chrisarsenault With the cap gains tax, they're not only harming entrepreneurs and innovation, but also taking out a chunk of ma and pa RE investors who are crucial to the rental inventory they're trying to fix with this spend, in the first place.
@chrisarsenault They are making more people reliant on the government and punishing people who are doing difficult things to get ahead. That’s what I see.
