Coaches get head jobs because they're good w/ players as an assistant, but working with ADULTS usually makes or breaks you. Most are unprepared. Make sure you are ready to work with: - Asst. coaches - Parents - Administration - Other sport coaches
@chris_parker222 This was one of the most difficult adjustments going to high school coaching from college coaching.
Yes! One key aspect as head coach is you can't only focus on the X's and O's anymore. This caught me a little off guard in year one. But, developing relationships with EVERYONE, including community members, school maintenance personnel, and janitorial staff is what will change a program. Make it clear to these people that you see them as part of the overall team.
@chris_parker222 EXACTLY- Relationships are KEY. One key thing I always add, They want to know You truly Care, before they care about what you know. But then you also have to Walk the Walk. Build Trust, Have Clarity, and do not be afraid to have Honest, Open Communication.
@chris_parker222 Usually this applies more towards admin, teachers, & staff. 🤔
@chris_parker222 Facts! My admin mentor told me years ago that as a principal or a HC know how to deal with the adults.
@chris_parker222 Great post! This is why organizational skills, communication skills, work ethic, trust, loyalty, and being able to handle adversity are critical To the transition from AC to HC. Not all are built to lead as an HC.
