In a recent episode of @DrPhil exploring the debate over youth transition, @LeorSapir explained one of the reasons why people believe the rate of transition regret is so low: detransitioners often don’t tell their doctors. “The system had completely forgotten about them.” 🧵
In 2021, physician and researcher @LisaLittman1 conducted a survey of individuals who had detransitioned, finding that 76% did not inform their clinicians about their detransition. link.springer.com/article/10.100…
@buttonslives @DrPhil @LeorSapir Interesting hypothesis. Got any data that would qualify as moderate- or high-quality to support this assertion Or is this merely a suggestion…. I’ll hang up and listen….
@buttonslives @BuckAngel @DrPhil @LeorSapir They don't follow up.
@buttonslives @DrPhil @LeorSapir There's certainly no encouragement for them to do so - quite the reverse in fact.
@buttonslives @DrPhil @LeorSapir The pressure of social exclusion (read: traitor) is way higher in the so called 'community'. And its not good PR for the medical personell involved
@buttonslives @DrPhil @LeorSapir It is rather weird to ask a patient if they “regret their treatment”. Only trans doctors use this terminology. However as a surgeon I can ask if the patient would have done the surgery if they could go back in time and decide once again. That is an easier question to answer.
