Alan Gustafson disputed the Chase Elliott not running well in Next Gen car theme. This is what he had to say and some of his back-and-forth with the media (fyi, we didn't have microphones so the audio of followups from me and @jeff_gluck comes from my audio recording).
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck Hey man, I love seeing a CC have his drivers back….and it is Alan who is awesome and has won with the best in this sport. He knows where they are running. Oddly though it does feel like Chase has struggled a lot but the numbers say otherwise.
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck He called Chase a “young kid” which I found perplexing.
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck It's not a theme. It's a fact.
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck I love this from Alan. Chase and Alan are both men of few words and they just go about their business and do their damn job. He quietly has decent finishes almost every race but nobody talks about it because there are other things to talk about. It's a perception problem.
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck All of NASCAR is clinging to that win, and ignoring the fact that prior to it he was backsliding towards being the 4th best Hendrick car. (Definitely 3rd as a ceiling.)
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck Love it when Alan calls the Hamlin fans out for everyone to see. About time someone did it.
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck Yea, between Alan and Jeff Andrews, Bob seemed to be annoying those two more than anything, lol. Loved Alan at the end, telling you to be nicer to Chase when he comes in, lol.
@bobpockrass @jeff_gluck To be fair Chase 100% started these types of talks. He opened up about it on the DJD. This also adds to the reason why Chase is so private. So things he says aren’t twisted and turned into “Chase thinks he’s not good.”
