It occurs to me that #synbio + #AI/#ML has the same (if not greater) potential to be an agent of good or harm as did the expansion of nuclear energy in the 1950s. Why isn’t there more dialogue about the potential risks and safety guardrails? 🤔🧬🦠 #biosafety #biodefense

@bioinformer I think the problem is a two parter - 1. The breadth of possibilities makes the discussion of guard rails a bit of 'option paralysis'. 2. I can't think of any way to get money into limitations. Everyone chasing $ wants LESS guard rails - not more.
@bioinformer in a nutshell, nobody knows with great certainty exactly which possibilities are overhyped, and of the more certain problems (like "technological advancements will benefit the wealthy and not the poor") are also both old problems and hard ones to address
