My father in law jumped into Normandy the night before D Day. My wife and I took him back just before the 50th anniversary. Say what you will about the French, they treated him like the hero he was. A great memory.
@bharperauthor My uncle served on those beaches, surviving D-day. He returned to a wonderful heroe’s welcome. I’m so glad that your loved one experienced the same.
@bharperauthor Dad went for the 50th as well. ❤️🤍💙
@bharperauthor That's very good to hear. Thanks for sharing the memory.
@bharperauthor Bless your father. His service is deeply appreciated. Few seem to know the dedication of the French in remembering Allied soldiers and the tremendous care they take of WWII grave sites there. This was gifted by France after the war here: tallahasseemagazine.com/on-tallahassee…
@bharperauthor My Uncle died on D day trying to save others…
@bharperauthor Two of my Scottish Great Uncles were paratroopers who dropped in on the German army & took “Pegasus” Bridge 🌉 They held it until my other Scottish Great Uncle who was Black Watch Regiment under Lord Lovatt arrived to relieve them.
@bharperauthor Thankfully all three of them were demobilised in may 1945, they got home to their wives & the rest is history.
@bharperauthor We went to Belleau Wood in the 1980s. A really old Frenchmen showed us the cemetery. We think he was a child during WW1. He was so thrilled to have Americans there. We were treated so wonderfully.
@bharperauthor Why do we Anglo-Saxons attack the reputation of other nations?
