Every startup should incorporate the “no hello” rule internally. We had this rule in Notion’s first internal communication guidelines. This may be one of the easiest ways to make Slack usage ten times better and have asynchronous communication that actually works. Share nohello.net with your team and give it go.
ok, i'm quite guilty of this. But it's also because I am paranoid about sending a message when someones not there and people seeing it because notifications/open screen. Old habit of in-office days. But also, I just like to engage as if its real time so I wait til theyre there to chat. But i'd never do it for like, a 1 liner question. 🤷♂️
@benln Can we create a federal law that mandates using replies? Oh and also blocks a user from posting more than once in a row.
@benln Don't have text chat if you want everyone to write an email. I fully appreciate what you are trying to do but you're creating artificial rules around text chat that don't inherently exist. I personally don't want to be available on a text chat basis so we only use email here.
@benln Every *human* needs to live by this rule, forget startups 🤣
@benln Ah my biggest pet peeve. The classic "Hey" message drives me crazy. Now I respond and I'm the one waiting around, then what if I don't have the answer and have to look around for it, now you are waiting again. I might have gone on a rant or two. It happens less now.
