Some Autistic people have extreme difficulty maintaining eye contact with other people … for some of us it even applies to photographs or objects the “kinda” look like faces … In our experiecne This rarely seems to apply to animals though …
@autismsupsoc I'm working on a theory that this is biological [causes literal pain] and I'm close to figuring out why.
@autismsupsoc I'm full on death stare or no eye contact, nowhere in between 😭
@autismsupsoc I was told to stare at people's noses. Very young like 5. I had to go to special classes on how to act normal back in the 80's
@autismsupsoc Not sure if I'm understanding properly but I have always found it easier for myself to look an animal directly in the eyes then people.
@autismsupsoc I’ve realised recently I rarely look at myself in the mirror beyond the need to make sure I’m more or less presentable. A lot of the time it’s as if the mirror just isn’t there. I wonder if this is related?
@autismsupsoc I've seen threads I think on Reddit talking about where to stare at a person's face that isn't their eyes, and a LOT of people seemed to not do this. At first I was offended as this seems disrespectful to me, but then it occurred to me it could be psychological.
@autismsupsoc I have to force myself. It's so friggin hard. Cats like to make eye contact to make sure we arnt a threat. Givem a little wink or blink and they know your cool.
@autismsupsoc because you can't feel judgment from them
