7 years ago today, I became a published author for the first time. Admittedly, my feelings about THUG are complex. (It put me in therapy, yay). I considered doing a thread today, but honestly, I'm tired of talking about this book lol. Happy birthday, THUG, as complex as you are
@angiecthomas I work in a bookstore and I’m ashamed to admit I never noticed THUG spelled out that way.
@angiecthomas My goodness a teacher was trying to find the class set for our 8th graders. She was able to get a few copies. That book is such an amazing teaching tool
@angiecthomas In case you haven't seen this 😊❤💯‼️ youtu.be/kBawFgYsfqM?si…
@angiecthomas As much as you're over THUG, I have to tell you, as a public librarian, it changed my life. As a white woman, it made me realize my ridiculousness, and I cannot thank you enough for that. It allowed me to grow and for that, I am grateful to you.
@angiecthomas We need your voice, Angie. We did 7 years ago and we still do. I don't see that need going away any time soon. Happy Book Birthday and thank you, always.
@angiecthomas Incredible debut novel. Can completely understand the complex feelings and also feeling like you’ve discussed the book to death. No words really need to be said — it stands quite well on its own. I’m always suggesting it and I hope readers keep finding it.
@angiecthomas @BufferingJuffy I remember absolutely tearing through that book on vacation in high school. It was excellent. Congratulations on a job well done.
@angiecthomas So, writing about Black trauma really does have that effect, because I thought I was the only one...?
@angiecthomas Why have I never noticed THUG in the title?!? 🤦🏽♀️ Happy book birthday! Enjoy some cake!
