Squatters having property rights is one of the dumber things that continues to exist IMO … how’s someone gonna get arrested for changing the locks on their own place ? Always wanna know why I’m wrong. Educate me
I know being simple and painting w a knee jerk political simpleton brush is easier ….. if anyone interested in actual policies and how they’re applied in each state, I found this helpful. I think it’s important to even be able to disagree w the party we have most recently voted for. A lot of stupid policy around this issue sparkrental.com/squatters-righ…
@andyroddick You’re not wrong - they do vary by state. In my state the law”allows a person to acquire legal title to an abandoned property if they occupy the property openly, continuously, and exclusively for 20 years” whereas NYC is 30 days 😮
@andyroddick Here in Florida, we just drag them out of the house into the nearest pond and let the gators have them. Problem solved without having to bother the sheriff.
@andyroddick With respect. I completely disagree with you. If you want to keep your property then, PAY YOUR TAXES. Adverse possession : squatting is about who has been paying the taxes on the property and who has been living there.
@andyroddick The law was born under the idea that if there’s a dispute for true tenants we should take a step back and make sure before we throw them out. Ideologically a good thing. However the laws haven’t put any measures in for scams artists. They needed to be prosecuted and jailed.
