Today's federal Liberal budget was a politically astute one, above all else, as telegraphed by the gov't over the past several weeks. Do changes to the capital gains tax and billions of dollars in new program spending represent good public policy? I'll let the policy experts render a verdict on that key question. But if today's budget shifts public debate over the merits of a deeply unpopular carbon tax to that of the merits of increasing capital gains taxes on Canada's wealthiest, then that's a debate Trudeau's Liberals should relish, and can win. Time will tell! #cdnpoli #Budget2024
@andrewaperez I don't consider the capital gains changes to be the most important provisions to ordinary Canadian citizens. Moreover, it's peeving me off that that single issue impacting only the wealthy who own secondary residences is headlining media reports.
@andrewaperez Astute to no one in this country who actually wants to work and get ahead.
@andrewaperez Make no mistake, we need this: I am depending on the budget passing so I can apply my rent to my credit rating. You must support this, @theJagmeetSingh & @yfblanchet -- ne lachez pas!
@andrewaperez @Thisgelisonfire "Deeply unpopular Carbon Tax" ? Because the CPC says so ? Because our corrupted by the right media says so ? We believe in climate change bud. Lots of us out here ready to run on a tax that has a cumulative .015% effect on the economy.
@andrewaperez A graph was posted yesterday on the various countries debt ratio’s. Canada is strong.
@andrewaperez No not really....if productivity and innovation are priorities for future prosperity, then the tax argument is a loser. Capital needed to drive productivity will flee. Big problems will be unleashed if pension strategy gets critqued for lower returns.
@andrewaperez Watching QP & turned up volume to hear PM due to shouting Cons. Mr P talks about being Housing Minister when there was no Housing Minister, just small part of another portfolio. Compares rent 10 years ago to now. Forgets rent control removed by Con Premiers.1/
