Leasehold should be illegal lol what do you mean you can buy this house but in 60 years it's not yours anymore and you have to pay another £20,000 to get yourself another couple decades?
@amyrapeer There is also ground rent and estate fees for freehold. Some people lost their freeholds because they didn't pay. UK is a basket case.
@amyrapeer Try buying a flat with a 99 year lease from brand new and then finding out you basically have to spend £10k on extending it after ten years otherwise nobody will want to buy it. 😭
@amyrapeer I work in mortgages and if I learnt anything, it's to stay away from leasehold properties and to be joint tenants (unless there's a very specific reason not to be)
@amyrapeer Nobody is forcing you to buy a leasehold property. Just avoid them.
@amyrapeer It’s just renting. Anyone who thinks it isn’t is not well
@amyrapeer It’s ok, though bc the uk are peopled by masochists you love to be under the jackboot of the landed gentry and nouveau riche. It’s the only possible explanation for why this is the only developed country who still do feudalism
@amyrapeer Leasehold is basically a derivatives contract but without the financial regulation that would usually come with derivatives.
