If you meet someone at a networking event, what’s a good question to open conversation? (Plz better than…so what do you do?)
@alischwanke I’ve been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty.
@alischwanke .@ShaggyEells asked me yesterday what's the most exciting thing that happened this past month.
@alischwanke I go with “so, what’s your story, (name)?” Wide open for them to fill with work, location, passions, family etc.
@alischwanke I am the worst introvert and small chat operator. The only way I get out of embarrassment is to ask what they think about the event or if they are enjoying it. Creates common ground to share positive or negative things together. I tend to talk more with those who complain 😂
@alischwanke If you died, and they cremated you and turned your ashes into a vinyl record, what would be on the record?
@alischwanke What is your favorite thing about the event so far? If you weren’t here what would you be doing right now? Who is the most interesting person you ever met today?
A subtle change to the norm, that makes a BIG difference... "so, what do you like to do?" Leaves it open to talk about work, life, or how they spend their time. I've found it leads to more personal and interesting openings.
@alischwanke I’ve had some of the best convos just by making relevant observations. Sometimes it’s a compliment.
