On 30th July 2025, we co-hosted a knowledge sharing event in Kampala with @IIED to explore the critical role of inclusive knowledge systems in advancing climate change adaptation in agriculture. The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Water and Environment (Climate Change Department and Department of Meteorology Services), the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, local governments from Alebtong, Tororo, and Kalungu, as well as NGOs, media, and farmers. Participants reflected on preliminary findings from the Building Community Resilience through Strengthening Agricultural Knowledge Systems in Uganda (#CRAKS) project, with discussions framed around four key themes: • From policy to action • Integration of indigenous knowledge with scientific knowledge • Centering Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (#GESI) in agricultural adaptation knowledge co-creation and dissemination • The role of the private sector in supporting an inclusive knowledge system We’ll be diving deeper into each of these themes over the coming days—stay tuned for more insights. #CRAKS is part of a #StepChange initiative funded by @IDRC_CRDI together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. #LocallyLedAdaptation #IndegenousKnowledge #ClimateAction #Gender

On 15th July 2025, we participated in the official launch of the Stocktake of Uganda’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions #NDC, which was organized by the Ministry of Water and Environment through its @CCD_UG This important process shall review the country’s progress toward achieving the climate adaptation and mitigation targets that were set in 2022. Notably, the adaptation component highlighted 48 priority actions and 82 indicators, with targets for 2025 and 2030. Dr. Alfred Okot Okidi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized the whole-of-society approach that the Government of Uganda has adopted for this stocktake, which we celebrate. He called on all stakeholders to contribute their experiences and actions, which will inform either the development or update of NDC 3.0, expected by November 2025. In the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing insights from our work during the NDC 2.0 period, highlighting the experiences and perspectives of vulnerable groups.

We honor the life of our former Board member, Technical Advisor, and cherished friend, Prof. Jassy Bagyendera Kwesiga. His contributions were pivotal in ACTADE’s growth, and he will be remembered with affection for his professionalism, integrity, sense of humor, humility and friendship. 🌍What did COP29 deliver for developing countries? We had high hopes for COP29 to set a new climate finance goal that truly addresses the urgent needs of developing countries like Uganda. The impacts of climate change are escalating, and we need substantial resources to transition to clean energy and adapt to these challenges. What happened at COP29? In a last-minute agreement, COP29 adopted a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) aiming to mobilize at least $300 billion per year by 2035, with developed nations taking the lead. Additionally, the decision encourages voluntary contributions from developing countries, including emerging economies like China. The agreement also calls for all actors to scale up financing to $1.3 trillion annually from both public and private sources - but achieving this remains uncertain. Does this meet our needs? While tripling the previous goal, the $300 billion target is far from sufficient. Developing nations have advocated for at least $1.3 trillion annually to address the escalating costs of climate mitigation and adaptation. The current commitments leave a critical gap that threatens our ability to build resilience, particularly in the least developed and most vulnerable countries, including Uganda. What must happen next? We need more than promises - we need action. COP29's outcomes must serve as a stepping stone for: ✅ Clear, binding commitments to scale up financial support for the most vulnerable nations. ✅ Prioritized funding for countries facing the greatest climate risks. ✅ A renewed focus on delivering the resources to empower local communities, women, and youth to lead climate solutions. The climate crisis demands bold action, and we will continue to work with partners worldwide to advocate for the financing our communities need. 🌱 #ClimateFinance #COP29 #GlobalSouth #ClimateJustice
