Black males make up 1.3% of the teacher population (source: CNN just now) This isn’t acceptable. Actually just realized I never had a Black male teacher in my K-12 years. Representation in schools matter.
@isadwatson I use to teach middle school history and was a literally facilitator at a elementary school. Honestly it’s just not enough money to be honest which sucks but a hard reality
@abookgiver Teachers are extremely underpaid in this country. Our country should honestly be embarrassed
@isadwatson @abookgiver Labor market dictates the wages. Not an opinion of value. If there was a constant shortage, and incoming qualified candidates demanded higher wages, they'd be paid more. Teacher wages are public knowledge, so prior to taking one college course, they know what they will be paid.
@Dad_3x @isadwatson As a prior math teacher from what your bio says I’m going to assume you felt underpaid as a teacher? There are current shortages across the country in major and rural cities and there still hasn’t been wage increases or at least nothing significant
@abookgiver @isadwatson And, if you consider the division of hours worked compared to my corporate career, I was paid better (per hour) as a teacher.
@Dad_3x @isadwatson Yeah the only teachers that were really above 50K in NC were math and science teachers got the STEM push, but even still when you consider the cost of living it’s nowhere close to where it should be
