This is totally true. It is also true that if you have chosen a career at a University that you have chosen the path of education. There is nothing more valuable, if you ask me, for an ugrad than learning first hand about cutting edge science. That experience changed me in ugrad
Many excellent answers in the thread here that point out the various mutual benefits between PI and ugrads. But there is another argument, similar to the one why we should publish & present our works at conferences. It is what our bosses - the tax payer expects of us.
