If you ask television executives what wrestling company is the best promotion, they would all say WWE. That is why they do business with Netflix, USA, CW, ESPN, and Peacock. If you ask people that read @davemeltzerWON, they will tell you WWE is actually the worst promotion.

@TrevorDame Shadow of the Thin Man (1941 I think) has scenes set at a wrestling event where they joke about scripts and rehearsals, and a funny scene where a wrestler stops selling during a match to politely thank a lady in the audience for her support. Kayfabe was never really alive.

Much of my youth revolved around the website ZineLibrary. It went down around Occupy in a massive loss for a movement whose ideas and knowledge mostly doesn't circulate online but in person. Anyway I've put it back online with a *thousand* zines: zinelibrary.org

@thesuperjcast Not watching any of it. Not trolling - just giving myself permission to skip these shows has been a tangible relief when considering the schedule. Aside from a couple main events, it's the happiest New Japan has made me all year.

@SoDuTw EPW, the main local promotion, is running a retirement match for one of the local legends. MCW tried to run a show but eventually cancelled due to, rumour has it, poor ticket sales. Perth is a four hour flight from the more populous cities, it's hard to create a festival.

@SoDuTw I'd argue it finally took TV out of the territory era and focused it on the audience of (up to) millions actually watching instead of trying to sell an extra 300 people in Tusla a $20 ticket. But I would agree its era is over and the next big thing should be something new.
