I built my own JavaScript runtime in OCaml Mostly, I wanted to see how far OCaml could go against Bun and Node, and also OCaml vs zig in similar APIs. So I built `sirocco`. it uses JavaScriptCore (same engine as Bun and Safari). Event loop with libuv and it's written in OxCaml. here's what it supports so far: - console, fs, process, path, Buffer, URL, EventEmitter, TextEncoder/TextDecoder - Both callback and Promise APIs work setTimeout, setInterval, async/await - Proper exception handling with stack traces - Full ES6+ support: classes, modules, destructuring, spread operators I haven't used OxCaml (Jane Street's OCaml compiler fork) features extensively yet, just nativeint for zero-cost FFI pointers, but it's a good playground to learn about modes, unboxed types, and stack allocations. Performance is comparable to Bun on most benchmarks. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower. Both use JavaScriptCore so the JS execution should be the same, the difference is in the implementation itself. If this goes well, the dream is to make it work with Melange bindings and raw. You would bind to JavaScript, or depend on a library, and it could run freely on the server via an OCaml runtime without any effort. Full circle. It's experimental. After the blog post "React server-side rendering with OCaml" by @javierwchavarri I wanted to try a simple idea: SSR in Reason with JSX but with the same interface as reason-react Given the same component tree that's used for JS compilation, should render on the server with OCaml

@davesnx We had similar conversation at FunArch. Not specifically to OCaml, but it would be nice to be able to redefine core errors and warnings anywhere. It’s not even about improving text, but mostly about providing context, such as your team conventions, links with details, etc

As ReScript future compatibility with OCaml is not clear, @ahrefs we have been exploring Melange as an alternative way to compile to JavaScript, to keep increasing shared code+tooling between backend and frontend in a safe way. This is what we learnt: tech.ahrefs.com/building-ahref…

@markdalgleish @klpigeon That way whenever a class with reference is removed, the build fails and compiler tells us which component are relying on it. I imagine there should be a similar solution in TS world. Sorry if I am saying something trivial, I’ve been detached from the community for a while.

@reederapp is there any support for users? I was trying to reach out via website and via app (which apparently are using the same form) and nothing. No response, not even acknowledgement that my question was received. Are questions going straight into a shredder?

@romanschejbal I feel that we have some "ETA stigma" these days and people are trying to work hard around it. I think the main problem here is that people think of ETA as a hard deadline while it's just as it is — an estimation. Estimations tend to change over time and it's completely ok.

@romanschejbal I always prefer to estimate even if I know for sure that I will be wrong. I can update the estimation later when I get more information, but the initial one helps me and people who are working with me plan things.
