Most small accounts don’t fail from bad analysis of a chart. They fail from forcing size too early. Here’s how I approach a small account ( <20k account size) Capital is split into three parts. Core capital (~60%) SPYM or SPY-type ETFs only. Used for cash-secured puts and covered calls. Low delta (10-15). Time does the work. Boring by design. This keeps pressure off decision-making while learning how SPY trades (predictable). Active capital (~25%) Shares first. Options only when risk is defined. TQQQ for trend exposure. TSLL and FBL are day trade only vehicles for now, small size, short duration. No marrying leverage. No oversized positions. Cash buffer (~15%) Never fully deployed. Reserved for rolls, pullbacks, or moments when price and intent align. Cash is a position. Rules that matter: • Fewer trades, better spots • Size respects volatility • Leverage is a tool, not a thesis • Survival comes before acceleration. Small accounts don’t grow from excitement.
