2008 was the last true landslide election with Obama easily winning against McCain after historically unpopular George Bush left office. Since then dem strength has waned especially in the rural Midwest and Appalachia. However, its been somewhat balanced by GOP losses in suburbs.
@_fat_ugly_rat_ is the reason why the rural midwest + appalachia shifted so much more to the right than western rurals did mosty due to the fact that the western rurals were already super red, and thus Dems didn’t have as much to fall there?
@_fat_ugly_rat_ I’m curious what Arizona and Alaska would have looked like without the McCain/Palin home state effects.
@_fat_ugly_rat_ I love Alaska's swing lol
@_fat_ugly_rat_ Looking back at this, part of me wonders if WI/MI/PA being way bluer than expected in 2022 is a mirage & they'll vote more red than anticipated, where as GA/AZ/NC will vote more blue than anticipated in 2024. hmm
@_fat_ugly_rat_ This is pretty much the political swing throughout my entire adult life
@_fat_ugly_rat_ @Thorongil16 The blue swings in much of the rural black belt is kind of unexpected.
@_fat_ugly_rat_ feel like shit just want this back
@_fat_ugly_rat_ Biden+26 Trempeleau county is hilarious looking back
