Almost every news story about a woman being killed by a partner or ex partner seems to include a fact that she went to police several times and was dismissed before she died. It’s a consistent pattern in damn near every country.

@_Zeets Often, cops are white men with guns. These are the last types of people I would confide in. Unfortunately, under patriarchy, this is the best we have.
@_Zeets That’s why we have to have a police service that is 95% Women
@_Zeets Cops can't do anything unless a crime has been committed. Most cities have agencies who deal with this sort of thing.
@_Zeets @Morgan_Moriarty My sister in law going through this. A lot of times just my experience though this she’s not doing what they have told her to do numerous times. Get a tpo call the cops every single time. Instead she lets him back in keeps contact
@_Zeets I’m on a fatality review board where we examine intimate partner murders to determine where things were missed and try to create interventions for others. Even if the victim doesn’t go to them directly, they still almost always know. They’re one of the barriers to intervention.
@_Zeets Ended a relationship. He said he’d kill me. Had toxic levels of ARSENIC. Blown off by PD. Stalked relentlessly (still). My address was changed, ON CAMERA, in a Post Office & all my mail was stolen for a month. USPIS called THAT a “prank”.

@_Zeets I kept calling the cops only cause the domestic violence hotline encouraged me. Otherwise I would have let it go. They told me to get to safety above all else and use the calls as a paper trail. They might have saved my life.
@_Zeets Unfortunately they normally have lousy options to offer victims, especially more affluent victims who are employed, because our entire system of responding to DV is stuck in the 1970s and is based on the idea that the best option is for victims to flee and hide.
