@GreyKnight8008 @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun IQ has use cases in psychology. But its important that they're recognised as limited and flawed. IQ is not at all a core part of psychology nor does its flaws mean psychology is flawed itself
@_HAWKISH @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun Without IQ there's no measurable unit in the entire field of psychology, lol. Without anything to measure and test for, psychology isn't a science at all and doesn't deserve the "logy" part of its name.
@GreyKnight8008 @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun Sorry what. Do you think IQ is the only measurable unit in psychology? 😂 what the fuck What are you actually talking about this is just blatantly untrue.
@_HAWKISH @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun It's the most consistently measurable. There's others like Openness, but IQ has the most reliable results because while you can intentionally fail an IQ test, there's no real way to get better at it. With Openness, you can lie on it and get a higher openness score.
@GreyKnight8008 @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun You can also get better at IQ tests, they actually struggle with the practice effect when doing standardised IQ testing because it utilises the same parts of cognition most of the time meaning participants generally improve upon repetition
@_HAWKISH @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun Iirc an IQ test is only valid if you haven't taken one within 2 years. Practicing an IQ test defeats the point. Compare to an Openness test where you are able to get a high score simply by lying, no practice needed.
@GreyKnight8008 @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun right so you can see how that causes methodological issues right lol. A good test of intelligence wouldn't be influenced by the practice effect I'm not sure what your point is here at all
@_HAWKISH @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun That it's still the most reliable unit in psychology. Because you can't just lie and get a better IQ score, unlike all the other psychology tests.
@GreyKnight8008 @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun You can lie on IQ tests and deliberately get answers lower than your maximum though. Most tests are hard to "lie" on to get a better performance that's just the nature of testing. Directionality is integral to how demand characteristics can work
@_HAWKISH @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun Yes, but you can't lie on an IQ test to get a higher score. This isn't the case for any other psychology test.
@GreyKnight8008 @HighPoster @Forever_noir_ @comradeKangaroo @witheredsummer @CococonutGun Youre viewing IQ as like how personality traits are measured as opposed to a trait of cognition. Its very difficult to "lie" and get higher on trait cognition tasks. IQ isn't a personality trait, it's a cognitive one
