Canada has always had a culture in tension between encouraging growth and ensuring equity. It’s unique in the world for this. Over the last decade though - the pendulum has really shifted towards equity over growth. It’s shifted so far that it’s not coming back. The sooner people realize that the better.

Stop trying to make “fetch happen” - because culture does two things: attracts those who are like minded and repels those who aren’t. All of these takes are really really bad. What most fail to realize is that this is the perfect take for Canada. Because it’s what Canada is - resentful of outliers. Founders with ambition are the overwhelming minority of a minority in this country; where 80% of all employment growth over the last 10 years has been public sector. I may be the only investor in Canada that has no government capital in their fund.
