This has still gotta be the worst rebrand of all time. Can't even call it X without needing to put (formerly Twitter). If you can't call something by it's new name without needing to remind everyone of the old name that is a textbook marketing 101 failure.
It seems wild for sure. But if the plans for the updates are true. It’s more so to brand the current typical Twitter audience into understanding it’s clearly moving on. At some point it will just flat out be X and millions of people will be introduced into it as such. Will it work, when will it fully switch, who knows.
This isn’t as insane as it seems, but your point still stands. The abrupt rebranding ideally represents a tangible move forward from the former management and could be seen as a representation of the scope of changes Elon had and has in mind. Most companies I’ve seen do this are small and it happens right after a new owner acquires. Typically in these cases the new owner thinks the previous owner was an idiot and wants the thing without association to the previous regime. The issue with the abrupt change in branding is always with the challenge of user conversion to the brand. The real problem here is that Twitter was revolutionary. It is nearly ubiquitous for any society with an internet connection and has been for a loooong time. Could Coca Cola rebrand drastically and have it be successful? Probably not.
@Wynnsanity Yeah, but eventually the name Twitter will be phased out as years go by. Newer and younger generations will be calling it X so it's not entirely a bad idea, it's just that we haven't adapted well to the change.
@Wynnsanity “The artist formerly known as prince” it’s not a problem with him?
@Wynnsanity Facts. Completely agree. The disclaimers uttered verbally and in print on a daily basis to clarify it are RIDICULOUS, redundant, and just plain tiresome. It’s Twitter. Always has been and always will be…..🙄
@Wynnsanity Not worst then NewState’s rebranding
@Wynnsanity yeah I miss my bird idk why he doesn’t just call it Twitter X
