In writing, the center of the shot is the subject position: it's the location that tells readers what the sentence is about. Consider the same moment framed four different ways: Same information; Four different stories. The subject position tells the reader who to care about.
Every sentence tells a story. And your reader wants to know: Who is this story about? In film, directors answer this question by placing the character in the center of the shot. Writers have the same tool. It just has a different name.
