@joenels Only $2.5 million counts against the cap. So those 10+ vets are getting paid $3.9 million, but the extra $1.4 doesn’t count against you otherwise it would prevent a lot of teams from signing older guys for a cheaper alternative.

Wolves salary cap situation for 2026-27: 13 roster spots filled with $3.9M in space before the 2nd Apron hard cap. The Wolves can sign either one player for up to $3.9M and have 14 players, or a rookie deal (ex: TKR) plus a veteran minimum to reach the max 15 spots.

I would guess the Wolves go into the season with 14 players unless there is another trade made. Highly doubt they would give any rookie an NBA contract. Most likely scenario is signing someone to the minimum and then signing a buyout player after the trade deadline.

@JakeBru3 Sam Darnold is one of the biggest outliers in NFL history. Again this is under the scenario that JJ performs Kyler in training camp. Not likely, but would be best case scenario for the future ceiling of the team.

@WolvesRube21 I just don’t know who you would add on a rookie contract that is worthy of an NBA roster spot. I think Pullin could be like $1.8 million which would work, we have so many guards. Josh Green will not be waived and stretched. Not worth doing that for an actual rotation player.

Yes, I understand JJ was awful last year. But keep in mind, this is IF he wins the QB. If he can outplay a 7-year NFL starter in camp, that is super encouraging for his future.

@NorthStarsNHL We can offer slightly over the minimum at $3.9 million (minimum is $2.5 million). Based on their luxury tax penalties, a $3.9 million contract would cost Denver about $16 million in tax penalties, while signing someone else at the minimum would cost them $11 million.

Spencer Jones is a name I would like if the Wolves can't land LeBron. Played 22.0 minutes per game for the Nuggets last season. Very good defender who is low usage on offense, but shot 39.6% from 3. Only problem is he's an RFA so the Nuggets can match any offer made to him.

Obviously you’ll make room for LeBron, but this is starting to negatively affect all of the FAs still on the market. NBAPA should have a conversation with him. It doesn’t take a month to make a decision unless there is some material change coming to someone’s roster.

Jones (6'7, 225 LBs) would be slightly undersized for the PF position, but can take some POA defensive duties off Jaden McDaniels plate. Doesn't solve the rebounding issue, but Jones is one of the only PLAYABLE forwards left on the market.
