🌱 Vesnianky, haivky, hahilky, or hukanky are words referring to ancient Ukrainian ritual songs traditionally performed by women in spring. Originally, these songs were sung to invoke specific blessings from #spring, for example, to ask spring to be warm, to bring a good harvest, to call birds home or simply to thank the blooming season for coming. These rituals have pagan origins and over time evolved into cheerful traditional singing. Similar ritual songs are common in other Slavic nations, albeit under different names. While the lyrics may vary, the underlying messages remain largely consistent across cultures. 🎥 by Ivan Honchar National Museum
