My friend's son most likely has ADHD, which would explain his hyperactivity and behavioral issues at school. But get this: his doctor won't even consider testing for ADHD unless he's "failing everything" 😠 It is 2023. It's time we drop the myth that ADHD = bad grades
Update I sent this tweet to her and told her it was worth a scroll through all of the replies you guys have sent. She said she's going to bring it up at their next visit and share what you all had to say about this stereotype! Thanks, friends, for sharing your perspectives 🥰
@WhatTheADHD They need a new doc. Getting tools to learn to emotionally regulate is a big part of getting through school without a lot of trauma. Especially if he suffers from RSD or anxiety induced by ADHD.
@WhatTheADHD Get a new doctor who specializes in kids & ADHD. The one you have is plainly unqualified. I had to ditch two Psychs bc they insisted I was “fine” & didn’t need meds, or that ADHD is so rare in adults that a Dx was unlikely anyway. I’ve got my Dx & meds & it’s changing my life.
@WhatTheADHD In high school I had a 90% gpa on average all four years. Guess who had severe adhd the whole time 😅🤪
@WhatTheADHD This really makes me so aggravated.Because then you also have the kids today diagnosed with ADHD and go through a myriad of pill rotation because nothings working because it’s not ADHD it’s trauma….
@WhatTheADHD I was so worried about our 504 meeting because my daughter does well in school. Thankfully, her teacher is a dream and said the reason she's doing so well is because of the interventions already in place. The 504 would just codify them. I was amazed by how easy the process was.
@WhatTheADHD My daughter was told she was 'doing good enough.' But she was always right on the edge of breaking down to do 'good enough.' We asked for a second opinion (after already waiting a year) and it was another year+. We went private, thankful to have that option. Literal lifesaver.
@WhatTheADHD Yeah I had a similar problem. My son was a straight A student but he kept getting in trouble due to his hyperactivity. The school wouldn’t do a 504 plan. It wasn’t until I insisted and provided evidence from his Dr that they worked with us.
@WhatTheADHD She has the right to ask for her son to be referred for an assessment under the right to choose.
@WhatTheADHD My kid with ADHD was on the honour roll ever year for top grades.
