East of Eden can feel like Steinbeck is personally tapping you on the shoulder to make sure you noticed the moral.
I tried, got 1/3 way through, and then gave up. The prose is exceptional, the story engaging, the setting interesting enough, but it is just too heavy handed, with a contrived plot, over the top characters (all good, all evil), and far too preachy. Great authors weave in lessons,
Those who have been following me for a long time, know that I‘m a big admirer of Steinbeck. The first time I read „East of Eden“, I was still very young with basically no experience in the real world, and the impression it left on me beyond the literary sensation, was a massive explosion of emotions in my mind. Later, when I learned English, I also bought it in original and keep it in my library. I‘ll be watching the Netflix series on this beloved book of mine with great expectations. And a quote at the end, of course. „There's more beauty in truth, even if it is dreadful beauty.“ John Steinbeck, East of Eden.
Happy birthday to the man who made a desert planet feel like an entire universe
Happy Birthday to #Dune author Frank Herbert, who would have been 106 years old today.
i don't mind a guy in a novel spending three chapters thinking about one awkward conversation
That dog has excellent camera instincts. Head placement is impeccable
My dad has just figured out how to use the front camera. This is the first picture he sent.
having to shift the whole tile layout to avoid a skinny strip at the doorway is mildly irritating

Dracula with those voices sounds like a very efficient way to lose a whole evening
I'm halfway through the Dracula audiobook featuring Jonathan Bailey and Ella Purnell. Oh my god. The casting, the atmosphere, the voices... I'm completely hooked.
dogs have a way of turning you into the exact person you used to side-eye
Confession 😂 I’m not gonna lie, I used to judge white people and how obsessed they were with their dogs 😭😭 Now that I got a dog, I completely understand. I love my dog more than people too. I’m sorry, white people… I get it now. 😭😭
dogs have fully taken over the neighborhood's information infrastructure and honestly good for them
95% of @ring doorbell Neighbors posts are about dogs. I lost my dog, I found a dog, I saw a dog(s). The other 5% is did anyone else hear that bang?
i prefer fictional men who say they're sorry before the last ten pages to the ones who just stare out windows

Five surprising facts about Rottweilers 1. Rottweilers are very intelligent. They can learn commands quickly, but they also like to think for themselves. Sometimes they understand you and simply choose not to listen 2. Rottweilers were working dogs before they became family dogs. They were used for herding livestock, pulling carts, and protecting property. 3. They can be extremely observant. A Rottweiler often notices changes around its home and environment very quickly. That protective instinct is part of what the breed is known for. 4. Rottweilers have a powerful bite. Their jaws are strong because they were historically bred for demanding working tasks. But strength doesn’t automatically mean aggression—training and socialization matter greatly. 5. Rottweilers can be very affectionate with their people. Behind that serious face is often a dog that loves attention, companionship, and being close to its owner.
that little pause is her giving you one last chance to surrender the bed voluntarily
Well, I just wanna let it be known that my dog over here is KNOCKING AT MY DOOR AT 2 AM (well, moreso 'pawing' at my door) WHILE PAUSING 3-5 SECONDS IN BETWEEN BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN!! And for what??? TO STEAL MY SIDE OF THE BED!?!? This dog man…😮💨she's lucky she's cute.😭😭
