Conservatives Launch Investigation into Liberals' Financing of BC Ferries from Chinese Shipyard July 7, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ottawa, ON – Today, Conservatives launched an investigation into the Liberal government's financing of four ships from a Beijing state-owned company for BC Ferries. The Transportation Committee voted for a Conservative motion ordering the testimony of the Minister of Transport, Chrystia Freeland, the Minister of Infrastructure, Gregor Robertson, along with the CEO of the Canada Infrastructure Bank and the head of BC Ferries. At a time when Canada’s shipbuilding and steel industries are under unjustified attack by American tariffs, Canadians were shocked to learn the federal government is providing $1 billion in low-interest financing for the purchase of foreign ferries. This is despite Mark Carney promising to “establish Buy Canadian standards for federal infrastructure funding,” and saying that Canadian taxpayer dollars should be “invested wisely, including by prioritizing made-in-Canada manufacturing and supply chains.” This isn’t the first time Canadian workers have lost out. In 2017, the Liberals provided $28 million in funding to BC Ferries for vessel replacements that went to a Dutch company that built the ships in Romania. This project-specific funding is all on top of the over $37 million in annual funding the federal government provides to BC Ferries. Not only will Canadian shipbuilding jobs be offshored, but the Liberals are financing the purchase from a Communist Party-controlled company. Mark Carney previously called the communist regime in Beijing “the biggest security threat to Canada.” Yet, his Liberal government is now providing taxpayer dollars to China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyards, which brags about being “a key state-owned enterprise directly administered by the central government.” Canadians deserve accountability to make sure their money is not supporting Beijing state-owned enterprises at the expense of Canadian workers. Conservatives will get answers for Canadians and ensure their tax dollars are putting Canadian shipbuilders, workers and industry first.   -30-

David Eby and the NDP handed BC Ferries contracts to a Chinese state-owned shipyard—one tied to slave labour, no environmental standards, and the CCP’s military-industrial complex. Meanwhile, B.C. shipbuilders can’t compete because of the NDP’s industrial carbon tax and red tape. Don’t buy the spin about “no local bids.” Our yards didn’t stand a chance. Now even Ottawa’s furious—and Eby’s scrambling. He sold out our jobs, our industry, and our security. This is exactly what I warned about for weeks.

For all the debt BC is in we have nothing to show for it that isn’t the usual stuff during a political term. No special projects. No light rail, Skytrain to UBC or North shore. Nothing. What an epic mismanagement of tax dollars. No investment in growing the economy. No support for small business. This is just sad. We should be thinking big to invest for the future. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 3rd, 2025 Ottawa, ON — Larry Brock, Member of Parliament for Brantford–Brant South–Six Nations, has launched a national petition calling on the Liberal government to repeal its soft-on-crime legislation and immediately reform Canada’s failing bail system. “Police are doing their job, pulling illegal guns, fentanyl, and violent offenders off the streets, but thanks to Liberal soft-on-crime laws Bill C-5 and C-75, the same violent criminals keep walking free over and over again. When is the justice system going to do its part? “Since the Liberals came to power in 2015, violent crime in Canada has increased by 50%, with sexual assaults up 74%, gang-related homicides up 78%, gun crime up 116%, and extortion exploding by 357%. “And increasingly it’s repeat violent offenders committing these crimes; individuals who never should have been back on the streets in the first place. “That’s why I’m calling on the federal government to take immediate action and: 1. Amend Canada’s Criminal Code to make bail more restrictive for repeat violent offenders, especially those charged with firearms offences, intimate partner violence, and serious violent crimes; 2. Repeal Bill C-5, which eliminated mandatory minimum sentences for serious violent offences; 3. Repeal the so-called “principle of restraint” introduced in Bill C-75, which instructs judges to release accused offenders “at the earliest possible opportunity” under the “least onerous conditions”; 4. Support law enforcement and victims’ rights advocates by ensuring the justice system puts public safety first and provides real consequences for repeat violent offenders, and; 5. Work with provinces, territories, and Indigenous communities to ensure consistent and effective bail policies across Canada. “This is an issue all members of all parties heard during the campaign. Canadians are scared, and they’re tired of revolving door justice. Interesting part is mayor of Stewart writing letter to EHS, Northern Health and Min Josie Osborne June 25 asking for info + help and getting... nothing. No response from anyone. Then phoning EHS leadership and getting told to wait for media dept to reply to her letter. A mayor.
