Final Fantasy music legend Nobuo Uematsu says he thinks "movie soundtrack-like music in games" is uninteresting, and that "game music cannot develop further" if composers don't try something different. vgc.news/news/final-fan…
@VGC_News Bomb Rush Cyber Funk was likely the best game soundtrack of 2023.
@VGC_News FF7 Rebirth music is crazy, every moment has it's own music
@VGC_News I think this is exactly why Soken doesn't really resonate with me. I've been trying to figure it out for a while, leave it to the GOAT to explain it to me lol
@VGC_News He is correct. There's a middle ground to strike but no one ever does it. Halo is a great example of fusing melody and atmospheric orchestral style.
Glad somebody so prominent in the industry with such a brilliant track record said it. Video game music nowadays may sound elaborate and orchestral yes, but they lack the kick and the memorable parts that we instantly recognize and hum along with whenever they play. There are great orchestral pieces, but more often than not, they sound quite like the typical historical or action movie type of license free music. Hardly anything unique that you’d instantly know the game like, like classic Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy VII-X, Silent Hill 1-4 and the likes.
@VGC_News elden ring good example of this IMO, the regional music is absolutely gorgeous and ridiculously creative, but the combat/epic/cinematic sections are so repetitive and fatiguing, I find myself turning the music off
@VGC_News Very true, games should have interesting music that thematically makes sense and adds to the overall experience for the player. Doing the same music over and over is just dull.
@VGC_News 100% facts. I'm so tired of "epic dramatic orchestral" music that has no proper melody or anything in recent big name games. It's all so bland.
@VGC_News He is 100% correct . It was always a big reason I’ve always dreamed of having someone like him on one of my film soundtracks. I feel like the tv and movie industries influence on the music of games has stifled the medium.
@VGC_News He's 100% right. You can't compose something more boring, generic and devoid of creativity then movie soundtrack.
