⚠️ Calling relationships #toxic undermines the severity of #domesticabuse. From coercive and controlling behaviour to physical violence, abuse is never acceptable. Let's use language that reflects the gravity & severity of the issue.
There is no such thing as a #toxicrelationship. Labelling relationships as 'toxic' shifts blame away from abusers and undermines survivors' experiences. Relationships are shaped by behaviours. Let's address those behaviours and hold abusers accountable. #domesticabuse
We need to name abuse to ensure those perpetrating it are visible and held accountable: ❌ No such thing as a #toxicrelationship ❌ No such thing as a #toxicenvironment or #toxicatmosphere ❌ No such thing as a #toxicdynamic ❌ No such thing as a #toxictrio ✔️ This is abuse.
I’ve fixed it. This is what we actually want. An ambition for us to feel safe whilst we’re actually the opposite is playing in to the ‘overly emotional women’ narrative/borderline gaslighting. To make us actually safe, your focus needs to stretch beyond CCTV/more police.
Two thirds of councils warn communities will see cuts to neighbourhood services as they struggle to plug funding gaps. We're urging the Govt to provide further funding to address the growing financial crisis facing councils and local services. 👉local.gov.uk/about/news/cou…
Exciting morning facilitating a national sounding group with senior leaders across councils as we develop the #LGA toolkit to support Ending Abuse in Public Life. The toolkit will support councils to self assess their arrangements #DebateNotHate
We don’t need more laws just agencies doing their jobs properly and buy in from communities @JoTodd4 @RespectUK #gbv2034
It was great to be at the first global summit on #deepfakes. A key takeaway has been the language itself and moving away from conceptualising this as non-consensual ‘pornography’ and calling it what it is; abuse. #myimagemychoice

A takeaway from the #deepfake global summit was recognition of the impact of image based abuse on victim/survivors. In a context in which #VAWG is already minimised in society, recognition of the impact is vital so this is seen & responded to as a form of #VAWG
Today we’re at the first ever global summit on #deepfakes hosted by @myimagemychoice. First up @SophiaBush discussing how women’s bodies are weaponised to push them out of power with Noelle Martin. Meaningful, collective action is urgently needed.
I welcome today's report by @VictimsComm recognising how crucial advocates are in keeping victims engaged in the complex justice process. These findings further strengthen my calls for a Victim Care Hub, navigating victims through justice and ensuring their rights are delivered.

Perpetrators use economic abuse to make victims think the abuse is inescapable. Many end up trapped with the abuser or left with no money or home if they flee. It is devastating that so many domestic abuse victims end up taking their own lives (1/2) theguardian.com/society/2024/m…
Its here! Today on #IWD2024, why dont you #InvestInWomen by working with us to audit how well your force adheres to the new @policeconduct principles. Get in touch to find out more: davisandassociates.co.uk/get-in-touch. Or read the guidance yourself here: bit.ly/3TpPMLb

#IWD2024: “I made a decision that I wouldn’t change my accent or how I spoke. If I outwardly appeared like someone who'd come from a higher privileged background, I'd be reinforcing the idea that only people from that background belonged in certain spaces” bit.ly/3v1x57g
From surviving to thriving: Our #IWD2024 blog guest discusses how she turned adversity into opportunity. Learn how she broke through barriers and now wants to #InspireInclusion across corporate settings to reduce women's economic disadvantage: changemakersassemble.com/blog/iwd2024
Our IWD2024 #InvestInWomen #DYK series: 3) Despite comprising 51% of the UK population, women are significantly underrepresented in positions of power & decision-making. To drive equality forward it's clear we need greater gender diversity in leadership roles. #WomenInLeadership

A year ago, the call to extend the law to include post-separation abuse was led by the Experts by Experience. Their bravery and resilience shaped legislation, providing hope and support for countless survivors.

New data from the MoJ shows sexual offence cases in the Crown Court's backlog have yet again reached another record high. We won't let these unacceptable delays become the new normal – victims and survivors deserve a criminal justice system that's fit for purpose.

Efforts to address the huge challenge of social work recruitment & retention can sometimes fuel the ‘crisis’ narrative in ways that are counterproductive. Stories like Jennifer’s are so important: *50 years in social work* youtu.be/_mpBUNK2RJk?fe… Thanks @TStibbs for sharing
Life insurance offers important financial protection, but what happens when it's used to threaten, coerce or control? Our briefing paper explores this & offers recommendations on how the insurance industry can better protect victims-survivors. Read more: survivingeconomicabuse.org/news/life-insu…
This article from @FarahNazeer highlights the huge impact of the Flexible Fund & underlines why it must be backed long-term. While more must be done, including a commitment to fund economic advocacy, the Flexible Fund represents a lifeline for survivors. stylist.co.uk/news/politics/…
We are proud to present our Impact Report for 2023. "We continue to be trailblazers; developing new programmes, services, and accommodation to support the most vulnerable, including those who face multiple adversity and survivors who have no recourse to public funds."
Todays #TacticTuesday we explore how to gather data for your needs assessment. Remember, #EveryStoryMatters. Elevate lived experiences as a valuable form of data in your needs assessment process. #LivedExperience #DataStories #Coproduction
#TacticTuesday is focussing on gathering data. Context matters, you need to zoom out, as issues don't exist in a vacuum. Real example when assessing #domesticabuse in @WestBerkshire we had to consider local data on the rurality of the area, as a unique factor. #ContextualData
A survivor's deeply personal and private counselling notes are rarely ever relevant to a case. The continued and intrusive requests for this material, means survivors feel forced to choose between support & justice. #KeepCounsellingConfidential Read more: ow.ly/BMzI50QZSe7

Todays #TacticTuesday we're focussing on gathering data for your #needsassessments. Data isn't just numbers—it's stories, perspectives, and contexts. 📊 Explore the richness of qualitative data in your needs assessment. #DataDiversity #QualitativeInsights
Starting our Tuesday off at @WestBerkshire #domesticabuse partnership board to present their final strategy. Really pleased with feedback from partners which welcomed how our work has synthesised a complex strategy area in to a clear, concise and actionable #strategy.
For todays #TacticTuesday were focussing on some of our #toptips to conduct a good needs assessment. Stage 1 is #evidencegathering. Quantitative data is just one piece of the puzzle. But remember not to overlook the power of qualitative data in understanding complex issues.
We're saddened to hear that #EvanStark has passed away, an expert in domestic abuse and a pioneer in the understanding of coercive control. We're so grateful that Evan joined us at Women’s Aid conferences to speak to our members and supporters about his ground-breaking work.
I'm very sad to learn that Dr Evan Stark has passed. His legacy in the domestic violence movement is immense. He developed the framework for what we now call Coercive Control & spent his life side-by-side with women fighting for better protections from male violence & control.💔
Watch this short video to find out about the red flags and warning signs of domestic abuse. If you are concerned about yourself, or for someone you know, we are here for you.
