On March 25, 1911, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire killed 146 workers and injured dozens more. While trying to escape the fire, the workers (most of whom were immigrant women) encountered locked doors and broken fire escapes.
The tragedy brought attention to dangerous working conditions, inspiring demands for change. Over the following decades, more laws were passed to protect the safety and health of workers, and @OSHA_DOL was created in 1970.
