Today, the UAE, the UK, UN Women, @drops_afg, and @ODI_Global co-hosted a high-level #CSW68 panel discussion on reframing security from the perspective of women and girls living under the Taliban in Afghanistan. The event addressed this year's priority theme - the real-life impact of poverty on women and girls and its repercussions. Poverty undoubtedly forces families to make impossible choices to put food on the table, pushing women and girls further into vulnerable situations.
In her remarks, Ambassador Nusseibeh underscored that prosperity will come from the education of women and girls. Peace and security will come from their contribution to their societies. She reaffirmed that we should not make the mistake of attributing the deprivation of women’s rights to religion. These decisions have nothing to do with Islam.
