My biggest mistake in coaching came very early on when I didn’t take the time to get to know a player before pushing him and testing his limits. A young man who was very capable wasn’t going hard in practice & I called him out big time, in front of everyone. He responded that he only had popcorn to eat once in the last two days and was worried about how his little sister would get dinner. How could this player give his all? You MUST get to know them as people before players!!! It’s our JOB to care!!!
@TweetsbyCoachP Wow Coach! That’s powerful man… Always important to check ourselves as coaches on basically a daily basis… Thank you for sharing - great insight and incredibly important as we seek to have the biggest possible positive impacts on and off the court 🤙🏻👊🏻👏🏻
@TweetsbyCoachP Thank you very much for sharing William. That's a powerful story
@TweetsbyCoachP It's called empathy, comes natural to some. 💯
@TweetsbyCoachP @TweetsbyCoachP - This is so true. It's true for every relationship. If we don't know WHO the people are, how can we really know WHAT'S in them in the first place?
@TweetsbyCoachP Greet players individually as they arrive for practice. Show authentic interest by asking about their well-being, family, school, etc. Build a connection that reflects your genuine care and support. Let them feel your commitment. #PlayerBonding #CoachConnection
