Tomorrow is SEC media day. Unfortunately I cannot watch and therefore won’t be able to make a post about it. But we were picked 16th by the media. So I can basically assume that the conversation will be about whether or not we feel disrespected and our players and Lamont will say yes.
@CockyFreeman Holy crap. Since I don’t live nearby I didn’t even look
We won by a lot, as I mentioned previously. Shane Blakeney (projected starter) did not play due to a cautionary protocol, nothing serious. He got run in the Bahamas and is a 5th year guy so I’m not worried. The guys you wanted to do well, did do well. Kory, Juan, Cam Heide, and then Marcus played as well. No one on the team looked bad as far as first college hoops action of the season. Obviously a lot of room to grow but the staff was pleased with the result and found a lot to build off. I have no individual stats, which is fairly typical of these secret scrimmages. Next one up is against Wake on Thursday in Rock Hill.
One thing I am looking for today…Marcus Johnson’s involvement. He sat out in the Bahamas due to injury. How does he fare in his first college competition?
@CockyFreeman Yes. Tickets are available online through the basketball website
@PastorP81 It’s likely foul dependent more than anything. Do we need big subs or guard subs first?
As go into wake forest scrimmage week, I’m sort of hanging my hat on a rotation prediction that looks like this… STARTERS #8 Kory Mincy G 6’2 #4 Shane Blakeney G 6’5 #23 Cam Heide G/F 6’7 #21 Juan Fernandez F 6’11 #32 Aleksas Bieliauskas F 6’11 6-8th Men #1 Marcus Johnson G 6’2 #25 Davion Hannah G 6’6 #7 Jakub Necas F 6’10 9-11th Men #20 Hayden Assemian F 6’6 #19 Hugo Lopez F 6’9 #13 Grant Polk G 6’6 12-15th Men #14 Eli Sparkman G 6’0 #15 Ford Wilder G 6’4 #12 Nasir Hines F 6’10 #17 Matthias Alessanco G/F 6’8 (Injured)
@free_Freehawk We can shoot, at least in theory. AB has a shot, Juan has a bit of a shot. But we are going to be far more skilled in the post than outside this year, which I think was the point after 2 years of no post play other than Collin playing hero ball
I’m going to say the most boring thing you could probably think of, but our identity this season needs to be living at the free throw line and in the post. With the exception of the shooting of Kory and Cam. Everyone else needs to live in the paint. And if we do that, we’ll get fouled, we’ll make free throws. It’s not shiny, there’s no flash, but it plays right into the strengths of this team AND it’s a much higher percentage opportunity to win. It will also allow us to set up our defense, force turnovers, and get into transition which we can actually run this year.
@RealAppraiserSC Unfortunately no
@chrissmith3200 @CockyFreeman Davidson
As scrimmages happen, I urge you to take them with a grain of salt. I would put a good sum down on the fact that Miami will finish better than USF this year. And yes we won today. This is not me saying we lost. But take any stats you see for anyone’s secret scrimmages and don’t run with them 😂
South Florida beat Miami in a closed scrimmage in Tampa, source told @TheFieldOf68
@CockyFreeman I have yet to get stats to prove it, but yes he was going to play today
@1952gsb Not yet. Whether or not you get info on these things is touch and go
One thing I am looking for today…Marcus Johnson’s involvement. He sat out in the Bahamas due to injury. How does he fare in his first college competition?
Preseason secret scrimmage for the guys today. The last update I got has all Gamecock healthy except for Matthias who’s recovering from his ACL tear. This is a great precursor to Thursday’s scrimmage for fans against Wake in Rock Hill.
@CarsonHowe61895 Game is over. I’m waiting on actual stats (if I’ll be able to get them) but we did win. I don’t have a score yet
@CarsonHowe61895 Idk how the minutes will be distributed for a secret scrimmage. But I’d mostly want productive minutes. I’m cool with the top 7 guys goin 15 minutes. But I’d want those guys to combine for 50 points in their 15 minutes
@CarsonHowe61895 Unfortunately I do not know. Typically around this time of day for the road team to bus in and then bus home by a decent hour
