#AlbumOfTheWeek Johnny Booth - Moments Elsewhere A whole segment of Metal Twitter checks out when ‘metalcore’ is uttered. This is more like post metalcore or prog metalcore. The emotionally genuine quality of vox & orchestration feels fresh and the blend of styles is sublime.

#AlbumOfTheWeek Blackbraid-Blackbraid II This is last weeks AOTW. I had to find time to get back to it & listen again before i chose it because frankly after the first pass I couldn’t quite comprehend it. second time through has clarified some of the themes & musical choices.

#AlbumOfTheWeek @vexedworldwide -Negative Energy This album is a lot more dense than it appears at first blush. It’s challenging in a way that Culling Culture isn’t but also gives the listener a broader emotional landscape to find footing in. Still plenty of bang & bounce

#AlbumOfTheWeek Boris and Uniform - Bright New Disease Boris is always playing around but they are always Boris. Uniform bring relentless distorted agony to every note of what they do. These somewhat disparate approaches create some real magic on tracks like A Man From Earth.

#AlbumOfTheWeek Godflesh-Purge This is my favorite band. Not the most instantly impressive album in their catalog, this. Some real high points like Permission & Mythology of Self, & i like the integration of new guitar tones into classic gf sound, but i need a few more listens.

#AlbumOfTheWeek @PupilSlicer -Blossom Loved ‘Mirrors’. Blossom is much more accessibly ordered w/o sacrificing the wild bass &lead cut ins. Lyrically confronting human nature, & reconciling the living dialectic gives it both a broad &intimate feeling. AOTY candidate.

Today was pretty dispiriting, too much of a workload on my old bones, my kid getting bullied school side and allergies squeezing like a cellophane head wrap. None of it matters cuz i got tix for @ITHACABAND in SF this fall. My concert life is in perfect equilibrium.

#AlbumOfTheWeek Ugly-Autograph This is a brutal set of ruminations on the connections between ego, exploitation & human suffering. If you liked the last Chat Pile album, this is a must. Definitely channels Justin Broadrick in spots but replaces his coldness w/ scorching misery.

#albumofthemonth Unborn Prophecy-Waking Our Ancient Memories This Costa Rican Progdeath has some really glorious wrinkles to it. It’s technical but not masturbatory,& it dances nimbly between the two poles of its blackened/death vocal approach.AOTY contender.
