We need to make our churches safe havens. We need churches who work to make their church safe from abusers! We also need churches who work to make their church a safe place for abusers to come forward to repent and be transformed by the power of the gospel!
@TomBuck Priority one: teach them to call the police. If a crime has been committed, the church is ill equipped to investigate it, much less punish it. The church can excommunicate, which is a far more fearsome sanction. But in this life, only the state may imprison or execute.
@TomBuck And safe havens to protect the names of those falsely accused.
@TomBuck "A safe place for abusers" - WTAF? The only thing abusers need is prison time, and a lot of it?
@TomBuck Brother, seeing a comment you made to someone else saying you have experience doing the latter, can you write an article about how to do that, pitfalls to avoid, and ways to minister to an abuser as they serve prison time? If you've already written something, can you link it?
@TomBuck That sounds really good. But, when an abuser confesses he used to abuse his wife but he doesn't anymore, and she is the bad one because she won't forgive. That is a manipulation/abuse tactic 100% of the time according to pros who specialize in abuse.
