Why OpenClaw kept using the default model (anthropic/claude-opus-4-6) instead of my Azure GPT TL;DR: The gateway’s “agent model” comes from agents.defaults.model, not from agents.list[].model. I only had the latter set, so it fell back to the built-in default. Quick fix: set both in ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json: - agents.defaults.model – e.g. { "primary": "your-provider/your-model" } (this is what the gateway uses for the “agent model”). - agents.list[].model – per-agent override (e.g. for main). After adding agents.defaults.model and restarting the gateway, openclaw models status showed the correct default and the logs confirmed the right “agent model” on startup. If you’re self-hosting OpenClaw and your model keeps reverting, check agents.defaults.model first. #OpenClaw #SelfHosted #AI #LLM #Claude #GPT #AzureOpenAI
